It's great to see our alumni sharing their business experiences with students.

Last week, the Northview Culinary Fundamentals class welcomed 2023 alum and food truck entrepreneur Anthony Rammuny. Anthony was in the 2-year Business Technology career tech program and also took the Culinary Fundamentals class. As a food truck owner, he is now using business and culinary foundational skills he learned in high school. We are so happy for him that the "Food Truck Frenzy Project" became more than a project.

Culinary Fundamentals teacher Ms. Bays shared, "He owns his own lemonade truck with his family. He visited as a guest speaker in my classroom where he shared his adventures as an entrepreneur, that one simple idea can take you very far, and the experiences and events he's been able to take part in through this entrepreneurial journey." Thank you to Anthony for sharing your experiences and business insights with our students!

It's great to see alumni share how their high school curriculum and teachers prepared them for their path after graduation and into their careers.

Last night, our Sylvania Board of Education welcomed alumni presenters to share their experiences in a Sylvania 2-year Career Tech program and how it prepared them for their future. Each shared their appreciation for the in-depth industry knowledge they gained through hands-on learning in the classroom and their CTE internship. Additionally, they each gave recognition to the CTE teachers for preparing them for success. We appreciate Anne Barchick (Business Technology), Makenna Edwards (Computer Programming) and Collin Maple (Interactive Media) for sharing their experiences and professional journeys with us. We are proud of their achievements!

We're sharing the sad news of the passing of both our 2022 Legacy Award recipient, Tom Watson, and his wife, Helen Watson. They both worked for Sylvania Schools and greatly contributed to the District and community. See below for more information about Tom & Helen and details for the Dec. 9 memorial service.
Sylvania AdVantage

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of both Tom and Helen Watson.

For those of you who do not know, Tom was the first head band director of the Sylvania HS band program for many years. Helen also worked for Sylvania schools for many years.
More importantly, they were both incredibly GOOD people, who made a tremendously positive impact on those around them as well as their community. Our sincere condolences go out to the entire Watson family.

The picture you see attached currently hangs on the wall in the band office at Northview HS. Pictured is Tom Watson (left) and Dick Field (right) holding a STATE award for a concert band performance, a top award through OMEA. It serves as a reminder that what we have and what we are blessed with was built on the shoulders of those who came before us.

At the start of each year, during leadership day, we discuss this picture and its meaning to the NV Band program. Mr. Watson, building a band program from scratch at what was then ¨Sylvania HS¨ , and later again, to rebuild another band program at Northview when the district expanded is a legacy of its own.
However, the true legacy is in the way Mr. & Mrs. Watson both touched the lives around them. From colleagues, to students/families, to the Sylvania community, the connections that the Watsons made and the values they instilled in those relationships are the true legacy.

We are truly blessed to have a very strong performing arts program at Northview HS. Through the hard work and dedication of educators, like Mr. Watson, the program has become bigger than any one person (director or student)
Mr. Watson's success came through a very special approach, putting the care of people above merely performing the tasks at hand.
This is the message we preach to our students:
-What legacy will you leave?
-Do not leave Northview HS untouched.
-Pass down to those younger students who follow you the blessings that were first given to you.
-Do this by being like Mr. Watson; working hard on your craft, caring about the people around you, and doing good deeds all while fostering positive lifelong relationships.
In doing so, the magic of music making and uplifting the human spirit happens and in a powerful way.

Mr. Watson... we hope you look down upon us today with pride in the Northview band program in which you created. We owe you so much and thank you for all you have given us.

To the Sylvania community, alumni, and any other friends of the Watson family: we would like to invite you to join us in a celebration of life and memorial service for Tom and Helen. This is an open event, so please feel free to share this information:
Memorial Service for Tom & Helen Watson

Alumni - Depending on when you walked our JH hallways, you may not know that our JHs have dedicated STEM labs/classrooms. The Arbor Hills and McCord STEM labs are in classrooms that used to have Industrial Arts. Who remembers Industrial Arts? Timberstone's STEM lab is in a space that used to be the back of the Media Center. Check out the post to learn about the many types of hands-on STEM projects the 7th and 8th grade students have exposure to ... Who would have loved this type of class in JH?

Exciting things today in Sylvania!!!!

This morning, Sylvania Southview High School welcomed SV alum and NASA employee Kristen Bury and also hosted two members of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band for a clinic. While they were with different student audiences, and themes were prevalent throughout all of the sessions.

🚀 Kristen shared that her path from Sylvan to McCord to Southview and then UT Chemical Engineering led her to work at NASA where she began working during college through a co-op program. She excitedly shared with 2 sessions of students the overall Artemis project mission and her role in it. She will be at Sylvania Northview High School this afternoon speaking with the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Career Tech program.

🎼 Southview Wind Ensemble performed and was part of the clinic with Master Sgt. Douglas Quinzi and Master Gunnery Sgt. Leslye Barrett. The Concert and Symphonic Bands observed the clinic. This was followed by a Q&A session.

The Southview students were really engaged as they asked questions of the experts. These opportunities allow students to expand their knowledge and broaden their view of possible career paths.
