📰 Florida A&M University (FAMU) Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer Rebecca Brown has announced the appointment of Lt. Audrey Alexander as chief of police, effective September 13, 2024.

“Lieutenant Alexander has the necessary qualifications and has demonstrated her commitment to serve FAMU in this important role. With her proven track record of leadership, we have complete confidence in her ability and her vision for ensuring the safety of our campus,” Brown said. “I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Interim Chief John Cotton for answering the call to serve. Over the past year, he, along with his dedicated team, has played a pivotal role in maintaining the safety and security of our campus. Their diligent efforts have been instrumental in ensuring a secure environment for everyone at the University.”

A FAMU alumna, Alexander has more than 29 years of experience in law enforcement with the University in the Department of Campus Safety and Security. Her vast knowledge has afforded her the opportunity to fill various capacities during her tenure.

📰 Florida A&M University (FAMU) Interim President Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D., kicked off his tenure as the University’s top recruiter making a pitch to students from Clayton County and the Metro Atlanta region on Friday, August 23.

“You see what happens when you come into Florida A&M University. You have greatness all around you. I’m here today to deliver the message that FAMU values your achievement. We believe that FAMU is the right place for you to pursue your career aspirations. We are willing and ready to invest in you and your dreams,” said Interim President Beard.

Beard also thanked Vice President for Student Affairs William E. Hudson, Jr, Ph.D., who hailed the success of the recruitment fair and hoped to make it an annual event.

“We had approximately 1,000 students and family members participate in the presidential recruitment event. It was an exciting time,” said Dr. William Hudson Jr. “Kids came from Clayton County and they came from Metro Atlanta. We put it on because the FAMUly was here, and we wanted to make an impact on this community.”

The Presidential Tour heads to South Florida next. On September 5, the Presidential Recruitment Tour will be held at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center in Lauderhill, Florida and at the Miami Dade College North Campus on Sept. 6.

The Rattlers play football against the Miami Hurricanes on Sept. 7, 2024.

Congratulations to and School of Allied Health Sciences graduate, Deliah Autry, on making the USA Flag Football team for the fourth year in a row 🐍 You can get anywhere from 🌎

📰 During the day Florida A&M University alumna Deliah Autry is a pediatric physical therapist. After hours, the 29-year-old member of the U.S. women’s flag football national team can be found either coaching young girls who aspire to play the sport or working out as part of her training regimen.

In March, Autry made her fourth national team roster.

When Autry attended Florida A&M from 2017 to 2020 for physical therapy school, she played on the Rattlers’ intramural flag football team. During her college application process, historically Black colleges and universities weren’t discussed at her high school, she said, but attending Florida A&M was a welcome experience for her.

“I just felt like I belonged there, and I felt super empowering being there,” Autry said. “I’m like, ‘Wow, they really don’t show you the glory of going to an HBCU.’ … I just felt so much more connected to myself and my family, my roots, by going there. So I always say it was the best thing that could have happened to me.”
