Dr. Marcia Mardis, Professor in The Florida State School of Information and CCI Associate Dean for Research, has been appointed Director of the Information Institute, a research center in FSU's iSchool. Congratulations, Dr. Mardis!

Dr. Charles R. McClure, Francis Eppes Professor of Information Studies and founder and director of the Information Institute in The Florida State School of Information, retires after almost 21 years at FSU. Regularly listed as one of the most cited researchers in library and information science, Dr. McClure was a prolific producer of books and hundreds of other publications.

“The College is deeply indebted to Dr. McClure for his vision and leadership in building the Information Institute and making it a powerhouse for graduate education and research,” said CCI Dean Larry Dennis.

Jaime Goldman, an alumna of The Florida State School of Information, was named President of the IAMSLIC, an organization of librarians and information professionals who are involved in all aspects of aquatic and marine sciences. In her new position, Goldman serves as the chief executive officer for the organization and has general supervision over its affairs.

Florida State retains Top 20 status in U.S. News rankings, advances in several key metrics - Florida State University News

The Florida State School of Information faculty published a new research paper titled “How do mothers exchange parenting-related information in online communities? A Metasynthesis.” The project is a collaboration between Zhe He, Gary Burnett, visiting scholar, Juan Xie, and her advisor, Ying Cheng.

“The findings of this study can inform the provision of health information services to mothers to better meet their needs," said He.

Julia Skinner ('15, Ph.D. Information Studies) is the first food historian selected for 40 Under 40 Awards from Georgia Trend and Atlanta Business Chronicle. An alumna of The Florida State School of Information, Skinner founded Root, a company focused on the practice of fermentation and food history.

Congratulations to Yolanda Rankin, an instructor in The Florida State School of Information, who received three awards at the 2020 ACM Conference for her work! Dr. Rankin’s research aims to amplify the voices and experiences of Black women in the worlds of gaming and computing.

"It is an honor to have my work recognized as cutting edge research,” said Dr. Rankin. “Especially at a time when we as a society are beginning to acknowledge that racial inequality does exist.”

Congratulations to Christy Chatmon, a Ph.D. candidate and instructor in The Florida State School of Information, who is the recipient of a McKnight Doctoral and Dissertation Fellowship!

“With the support and resources the program provides, I will be able to focus on the unique educational experiences and career trajectories of black women in Computing Education,” Chatmon said. “I intend to contribute by using the lens of intersectionality of black women in computing and their social, academic, and intellectual identities to promote meaningful intervention strategies that support their educational and career goals.”

There is currently no cure to Alzheimer’s disease, and many clinical trials have strict guidelines that make it difficult for patients to participate in potentially groundbreaking research.

Yolanda Rankin, Assistant Professor in The Florida State School of Information, was awarded a McKnight Junior Faculty Development Fellowship by the Florida Education Fund.
