SB1718 is one of many hateful new laws in Florida attacking the rights of foreign nationals, women, the LGBTQ++ community, people of color, and essentially anyone the MAGA crowd deems "other". Last week, I was honored to participate in a panel with other experts and activists to talk about the effects on our communities and how we can fight back. ✊❤️
Tomorrow in Lakeland! Attorney Alison Foley-Rothrock and other local experts will be speaking on the effects of SB 1718 and various bills recently passed by Florida's state government. Hope to see you there!
Nationals of El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal! TPS has been extended and re-registration will soon open. Time to get ready and renew! See comments for links and details.
The latest in Florida's cruelty towards "others" will negatively impact us all starting with tanking our state's immigrant-dependent economy.
AILA - FL 1718: Florida Anti-Immigrant Legislation Will Affect All Florida Residents, Not Just the Undocumented In May 2023, the Florida governor signed into law a comprehensive effort to restrict the ability of undocumented individuals to live and work in Florida. AILA has provided a summary of the major provisions of FL 1718, which will take effect on July 1, 2023.
SB1718, a law recently signed by Florida's governor, has many folks scared for their families and their future. Here is some info from our awesome community partners Florida Immigrant Coalition on what the law does and doesn't include. It is scheduled to take effect on July 1st, but will hopefully be delayed (and eventually thrown out) by the courts, since it is in violation of a number of laws and legal precedents. Also, be on the lookout for more on this from Attorney Foley.

One client approved for US Citizenship + tacos = Happy Lawyer 😁
This just goes to show that when people have a legal option, most will choose that way over crossing illegally. Coming into the US without permission isn't some sign of moral failing; it's a sign of desperation and lack of alternatives.
DHS chief: Border arrivals from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti and Nicaragua fell nearly 90% A new program allowing up to 30,000 migrants a month from those countries saw "significant number" of applications, Alejandro Mayorkas said.
Thankful for my clients, family, and friends. Hope you all are eating well and enjoying the day!
Let's hope this holds. If you have DACA or think you may be eligible, NOW IS THE TIME to discuss your options with a really good attorney! We may just know someone. 😏
Federal judge temporarily allows DACA protections to continue Judge Andrew Hanen on Friday extended his order protecting hundreds of thousands of Dreamers from being deported and blocking new applicants from the program.

Yes, I'm late. I treasure my weekends (especially long ones) with my family. Yet, I don't ever want to let this go unsaid. We are a nation built by immigrants. Let us also be one that honors and welcomes them.

Federal Courts overrule you-know-who again!! Both the “Timeline Repeal Rule” and the “EAD Bar Rule,” which made it much harder for asylum seekers to obtain work authorization are now GONE. While most in the immigrant and advocate communities (myself included) would love to see more drastic and faster changes, this is a sure step in the direction of more humane, sensible policies.
Federal Court Restores Access to Work Permits for Many Asylum Seekers A federal court issued a decision invalidating two Trump-era regulations that restricted access to work permits for asylum seekers.
Many categories of Employment Authorization Document ("work permit card") will now be valid for two years to alleviate hardships caused by excessive backlogs.
Immigration agency extends length of certain work permits, announces new mission statement Citizenship and Immigration Services said it would extend the validity of certain permits to reduce application times because of a processing backlog.
“USCIS upholds America’s promise as a nation of welcome and possibility with fairness, integrity, and respect for all we serve.” - Let's hope that they follow these words with matching actions.
Why USCIS’ New Mission Statement Is So Crucial USCIS unveiled a new mission statement, signaling an important shift in how the agency wants to tell its story and shape its priorities ahead.
Restrictions on travel to and from the US relating to COVID-19 lifted!
U.S. to lift restrictions Nov 8 for vaccinated foreign travelers The White House on Friday will lift COVID-19 travel restrictions for fully vaccinated international visitors starting Nov. 8, ending historic restrictions that had barred much of the world from entering the United States for as long as 21 months.
Came across this on my personal Facebook today. I miss speaking engagements! With vaccinations in place and COVID numbers finally down, I look forward to doing this again.
