Milton Glaser designed the I Love NY logo, an iconic symbol now ubiquitous with New York culture. It transformed the meaning of American visual culture in the 1960s and ’70s.
It was part of an advertising campaign by Wells Rich Greene commissioned by New York State in the 70s to increase tourism and raise the spirits of its dwellers during a very difficult time in the state's history. The agency created the slogan, but it needed a logo, which is when Milton entered, with his color pop inspired extroverted design mind.
It was so highly original & iconic that it continues to be a timeless emblem of New York to this day. Creating design that's ORIGINAL is the biggest topic of conversation among designers lately. In a world where AI is driving the re-digestion of old ideas, it's more important than ever that designers find ways to be original, so that INNOVATION in design continues to grow.

What graphic designers do in 2 words: HELP PEOPLE.
Graphic design plays an integral role in a wide variety of industries that it’s actually easier to list the things graphic designers don’t do than to list the things they do. In short, they wear A LOT of hats in order to cover a variety of creative and technical tasks on a daily basis, like:
✨ brainstorming and sketching out new concepts
✨ creating or editing images and layouts
✨ using specialized software to manipulate assets
✨ conducting research into current design trends or materials
✨ appeasing clients' and their needs for specific projects
In the end, design work is about helping people - whether that's a client, a business, a boss, or a team.
If you want to enter the world of graphic design, a great place to start is Sessions College! Comment DESIGN and we'll send you information about our online programs.

Thank you to the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Whether you're in the United States - or somewhere else in the world - there are always people to remember, honor, and respect that are no longer with us.

Does this sound familiar.... posting incessantly to Instagram and Facebook... sharing your amazing work online... engaging with other artists and accounts.... and waiting for your dream client to drop into you DMs... but all you get are 🦗?
Trust us. Many of those online art accounts/artists attracting amazing job inquiries here on social media started somewhere else. Somewhere, simpler.
If you're trying to land your first creative client or gig, try these 3 steps:
1. Approach local businesses
Being local has a powerful advantage. Some businesses will quickly feel common ground with you, and easily build trust. Plus, it’s unlikely that local businesses have ever been approached directly, in-person. That means YOU have the power to easily set up a friendly chat with them where they are based.
2. Make a list of local networking events, and yes - go to them
In the same way that you will try a new business or service based on word of mouth or recommendation alone, that’s how networking works too! Even if you don’t find a client directly at a networking event, you can make a great impression on someone who knows
someone who needs you, and often enough - that’s all it takes.
3. Keep up-skilling as a creative professional
Nothing beats the competition like being really good at what you do. If you don’t have a client right now, that doesn’t mean a break. Work on your portfolio or do a passion project in line with your dream client. Meanwhile, expanding your skillset through a class or routine practicing.
Don't forget, keep sharing your work regularly on social media, and keep engage with fellow artists and art enthusiasts here online. Your unique style deserves to be seen and celebrated! Eventually, something will stick! 🙌💫
Want to study illustration? There's no excuse now... since you can study illustration at an online art college!

Studying online is convenient in a lot of ways... like when living in France! 🇫🇷
Meet Adrienne, a multi-faceted illustrator who travels, forages her own cooking ingredients, and designing patterns. She chose Sessions College for an AOS in Illustration, largely because it’s 100% online and at the time, she was living abroad.
“Studying online is convenient in a lot of ways, like not having to buy physical textbooks and being able to Ctrl + F search lectures when studying. It also seems more accessible for people who may have chronic illnesses and some disabilities, but there is plenty of room for improvement.”
Since graduating, Adrienne has been doing freelance design work while searching for full-time employment in pattern design or illustration for paper goods.

How responsive and accurate is your perception of color? Play this game to find out!
This game was invented by María Munuera and Mark MacKay who wanted to help designers hone their understanding of how color is composed through hue & saturation.
Our favorite thing about this game is how you learn about color through a practical, hands-on approach, because that's our entire ethos at Sessions College. We believe that the best way students retain new skills is through practice-based learning. 👍
Color A color matching game by Method of Action
Hand-drawn art is popping up all over the internet, favored by brands who want to add 'human personality' their branding. This fun design style gives a brand a 'one of a kind' feel, because the illustration has been created specifically for them and is totally unique!
These are just a few examples, and doodle-centric branding isn't going anywhere. It's trending!
So... NOW IS YOUR TIME, artists.
Who out there has done some illustrating or original artwork for a branding project? Who out there wants to? Let us know, we'd love to see and share your work! ⬇️

What do you do when you get stuck on a creative problem that just won't budge?
📦 THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. 📦
When you're struggling to overcome creative block, redesign a page layout, find a new inspiration - whatever - it's often times helpful to reframe your thinking and perspective.
This may consist of:
➡️ Asking for help - Embrace the power of teamwork and use your network.
➡️ Starting over - This always brings a fresh perspective and sometimes even produces something better.
➡️ Walking away - Just a quick 15 minutes can give your brain the opportunity to have renewed thoughts.
➡️ Tackling a different part of the problem first - At which point ,the first part of the problem may undo itself all on its own.
Do you have any other ways in which you help yourself overcome creative problems fast? We'd love to hear them below!
Undo everything you thought you knew about composition and design... because maximalism is trending, and she is big, bold, and doesn't play by the rules!
Just like minimalist design requires disciplined fonts, colors, patterns, shapes, imagery and style, maximalist design requires the opposite:
➡️ Coveted white/negative space of 2023? Out the window!
➡️ Muted earth tones or patterns? Gone!
➡️ Organic, holistic illustrations? Adios!
This crazy design trend has affected other industries too. Fashion is entering a maximalist era (have you seen the trend on social media?) and even food is reaching new forms of fusion.
What do you think of the maximalist trend? 👍 or 👎?
