Today, on Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the conversations surrounding the Two Spirit and Indigenous communities. For far too long the Two Spirit identity has been pushed to the background of the Q***r Community. ASU welcomes a multiplicity of identities, constantly challenging its faculty, staff and students to be better human-beings. We hope to bring the 2S community in 2SLGBTQIA+ to the forefront of our SafeZONE allyship. You are celebrated here at ASU! Visit for events and information on how support our 2SLGBTQ+ community all year long.
Join us in celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day by recognizing and honoring the historic and present-day contributions of Native folks. Today and every day, we support their advocacy for authentic representation in media, literature, and curriculum with acknowledgment of the gifts and talents of our Indigenous communities. Centering Native voices are a critical part of the revitalization of Indigenous cultures and respecting the sacrifices of their ancestors.
“Hazara people have been the most persecuted minority for the past centuries in Afghanistan. Their schools, mosques, educational institutions, and hospitals are exploded. On September 30, 2022, a su***de bomb attack happened on an education center in a predominantly Hazara neighborhood – an ethnic minority group that has long faced oppression which killed at least 50 students and wounded more than 140 and most of them were women. This explosion happened in a class of 500+ students when they were taking a practice university entrance exam. For the solidarity, please join our peaceful protest at ASU campus to stand against the Hazara Genocide that is happening in Afghanistan right now.”
In Celebration of Out at ASU week, gather with your community to eat and share time together. The Q***r Story Circle is a relaxed environment for us to tell stories about our q***r experience - come share or come to just listen. Snacks will be provided. RSVP here: specialevents.asu.edu/storycircle
