C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S O P R O U D
Our own SBBC La Dolce Vita team made a great showing at the Rancho Bernardo tournament. Ed Kilcullen, Pete Pagnucco, Vic Zentil, and Rudy Alba played 5 very competitive games and won three. We are all so proud of the way they represented our club, ethically and competitively. Every year our club earns more respectability amongst the Association clubs.
Hello all SBBC Members,
Yesterday at the Bocce Courts, we had the pleasure of presenting Bob Chiota and Joel Massa appreciation plaques for their seven years of hard work and diligence to convince the city of Torrance to build our courts. When you come to play, you will see a plaque renaming the courts to the "Founding Fathers Bocce Courts".
Bob and Joel stepped down from their leadership positions this year and we are all benefiting from their dedication to the sport of Bocce.
Cheers and our best wishes to Bob and Joel.

New LA County Mask Guidance Reflects CDC Updates, Changing Landscape
The Los Angeles County Health Officer echoed the CDC guidance on Thursday April 30, 2021 by updating the county's COVID-19 health order at http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/docs/HOO/HOO_SaferatHomeCommunity.pdf. The updated document allows fully vaccinated people to gather or conduct activities outdoors without wearing a mask when alone, when with members of their household, when with a small group of fully vaccinated people, and when with a small group of people who are not fully vaccinated and not at high risk for severe illness or death from COVID-19.
According to the updated L.A. County order, vaccinated people must still wear a mask 1) at crowded outdoor events, such as live entertainment/performances, parades, or sporting events, among others; 2) in crowded spaces where physical distancing cannot be maintained and it is not known if everyone in the space is fully vaccinated; 3) in indoor public settings, unless otherwise permitted; 4) at worksites and businesses, and 5) in any setting where masking is required by the facility operator or business.
Fully vaccinated people engaging in social activities in public settings are urged to continue to avoid crowds, avoid poorly ventilated spaces, cover coughs and sneezes, and wash their hands or using hand sanitizer frequently.
STAY TUNED…These current posted Columbia Park bocce rules need to be significantly modified!
April 27, 2021 CDC says…
KEY POINTS
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said fully vaccinated people can exercise outdoors or with members of their household without a mask.
The CDC added that fully vaccinated people can hold small gatherings outdoors with others who are inoculated, or with a mix of unvaccinated people, without face coverings.
The agency did not define how big those gatherings can be, and said Americans should still wear masks in crowded outdoor spaces.
SO CAL BOCCE ASSOC ANNUAL MEETING
A Zoom meeting was held on February 8, 2021 with each Southern California Bocce Association having a representative present except for the Mission Viejo Bocce Club.
There was a vote to attempt to have a tournament season in 2021 following local city and county pandemic rules and regulations. The tournament season will begin in July 2021. Entry fee will remain the same at $180 per Team.
Hosting Clubs will only need to provide water. No food this year. Each Tournament Player and guest must supply their own food. Same payout rules. 66% payout based on 16 Teams. Extra dollars go to the Hosting Club.
Blind draw will be determined before the date of each respective tournament and approximate start times will be communicated to each Team before the start of the Tournament.
The SCBA will be split into 2 Divisions.
SOUTH Division (6 Clubs)
Encinitas
Poway
Laguna Niguel
Mission Viejo
4S
Amici
NORTH Division(5 Clubs)
Downey
Hawthorne
South Bay Bocce Club
San Pedro
Huntington Beach
South and North Division Tournaments will accept entries from their own division only up to a certain date. If Tournament does not fill up the other Division will be allowed to enter the other divisions' tournament.
There will be a SCBA Superbowl Round Robin Bocce Tournament Winning Team will be awarded a perpetual Trophy to be donated by Huntington Beach Bocce Club. The day of the SCBA Tournament will be Saturday October 30, 2021 at Huntington Beach Bocce Club. Mission Viejo Club was the deciding vote and the format will be as noted below. It was also decided by Frank and Angelo that the North will only send 5 Teams with change of format of not having the top Teams determined on how well they fared in the Tournaments. It would be too hard to determine which extra Team the North Division would send.
The South Division will enter 6 Teams . Each club will determine which Team or 4 members they select to form a Team.
The North Division will enter 5 Teams. Each club will determine which Team or 4 members they select to from a Team.
The tournament will be a Round Robin Format broken into 2 divisions.
5 Teams from the North will play each team from the North. A total of 4 games. 6 Teams from the South will play each team from the North. A total of 5 games.
Winner of each division round robin will play for SCBA Super Bowl Champion.

Safer at Home Health Officer Revised Orderhttp://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/docs/HOO/HOO_SaferatHome_SurgeResponse.pdf issued on December 30, 2020 indicates bocce play with individuals OUTSIDE of one's HOUSEHOLD is NOT PERMITTED. Bocce play for individuals in SAME HOUSEHOLD are PERMITTED. Posted COVID-19 Guidelines for safe play must be followed in regards to courts to be used, six foot distancing, and sanitizing.
Bocce Open for Individuals or Members of Single Household
Page 13 of the REVISED Temporary Targeted Safer at Home Health Officer Order lists a sample of outdoor recreation activities which are currently permitted. Among the activities listed are bocce courts.http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/docs/HOO/HOO_SaferatHome_SurgeResponse.pdf
Revised Order Issued: November 28, 2020
Effective 12:01AM (PST) on November 30, 2020 to 11:59PM (PST) on December 20, 2020
It’s all about playing bocce as an individual or with members of your household only but NOT with members outside your household. I am seeking clarification from LAC DPH about bocce since it is not mentioned in new New Safer at Home Orders. The presumption right now is that only household members can play bocce as per tennis and pickleball. All must follow posted COVID-19 Bocce Rules.
