On May 16th SoCal Roc’s Registered Dental Assistant instructor Ms. Arredondo and her students attended the California Dental Association (CDA) Scientific Convention of the Art and Science of Dentistry. Held at the Anaheim Convention Center, this three-day event immersed our students into a world of cutting-edge dental technology and products.

They had the unique opportunity to interact with sales representatives and promoters from leading companies, gaining invaluable insights into the latest advancements in the field. Demos of new products showcased the innovative strides being made, and our students eagerly participated in trying out the newest oral health products and power toothbrushes from renowned brands like Oral-B Crest, Colgate, and Phillips.

Giovanni, a current SoCal ROC Welding student from Torrance High School entered Welding I with no idea what he wanted to with his life and now in Welding III seeks out every opportunity to improve his value in the field. His ultimate goal is to become an underwater welder.

Board President Strutzenberg presented Giovanni Vasquez with an Award of Excellence certificate on May 30th, 2024 at SoCal ROC's Board of Education Meeting.

On Thursday May 30th, SoCal ROC Board of Education highlighted our Welding Modules I - IV.

Instructor Adriana Ortiz highlighted that this was her first time teaching high school students and that she has really embraced the new challenge. Her students learn the fundamental techniques and principles of welding, ensuring they become adept in various welding processes such as MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding. She emphasized that her program prepares her students to become certified and to further their knowledge in the many different specializations in the field.

Last week Torrance Police Officers and their incredible K-9 partners visited SoCal ROC’s Veterinary Assistant classroom. The officers introduced their K-9 companions, shared heartwarming stories of how they first met their four-legged partner and shared details on the rigorous training and unique skills these dogs possess.

The officers emphasized the importance of proper veterinary care and the role our students could play in supporting these extraordinary animals. Thank you to the Police Department and Officer Rachel Couto and her K-9 Tango and Officer Bejarano and his K-9 Max for informing our students about the vital connection between veterinary care and law enforcement.

Summer is a difficult season for blood banks and donation centers because people are on the move. Between vacations, travel plans, and outdoor activities people tend to refrain from giving blood.

We all have mental health, it directly affects how we think, feel, and act everyday. We all have difficult days and weeks, and are constantly managing our mental health. Just like your physical health, there are many steps we can take to support our mental health and it all starts with creating positive habits.

On April 18th, Preston Plaisted, a SoCal ROC Automotive student, Ambassador, and a senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School was presented with an Award of Excellence certificate by Board President Strutzenberg.

Mr. Plaisted stated that he is truly grateful to SoCal ROC for providing a platform where he could discover and elevate his passion for working with his hands. He credits SoCal ROC Automotive instructor, Aaron Lee for his guidance and encouragement. Mr. Plaisted plans on returning to SoCal ROC after graduation and enrolling in Welding or HVAC to help him prepare for his ultimate career goal to become a Elevator Mechanic.
