📣Resolving Tongue Tie Issues Isn’t a Simple Process
I often receive calls from individuals seeking help for tongue tie procedures, whether for children or adults. I’d like to clarify a few points about these procedures.
Firstly, there are several methods for releasing a tongue tie, and these methods differ. Some involve sutures (stitches), while others do not. The releases I’m discussing here are specifically for children and adults, not infants.
➡️It’s critical to understand that resolving tongue ties isn’t as simple as performing a few exercises before and after the release. This is not a quick fix for multiple body issues. It’s crucial to understand the compensations that develop around the restrictions and the reasons for needing the release in the first place.
The initial appearance of the tongue tie does not determine the outcome; improvement is possible with Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. We address these dysfunctions first, then re-evaluate. If a release is still needed, we work toward achieving proper function.
How do you recognize proper function? How do you know your therapist is qualified? The best professionals to understand oral function and dysfunction are those whose scope of practice involves working in the mouth, such as registered dental hygienists and speech language pathologists.🦷👅🗣️
An evaluation is a thorough process. Fully addressing all compensations from a tongue tie release can take months. In my practice, we typically reassess function nine months to a year after the procedure.
If your release provider does not require a comprehensive evaluation of the oral complex before and after the release, it’s essential to ask questions and seek therapists certified in oral function and dysfunction.
🍏🍎 Did you know eating apples whole has amazing benefits? Not only do you get extra fiber, phytonutrients, and hydration, but it also boosts dental and oral health! 🦷
Chewing helps guide and develop proper jaw structure, which can even improve breathing by developing the airway properly. 🌬️
Does your child prefer whole apples, cut-up pieces, or applesauce? 🍏🍎✨

Do you or someone you know struggle with nail biting❓
It can be difficult to stop, but understanding the reason or reasons for the habit is the goal of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. 🤔🔍 Some of the most common reasons for this habit are airway insufficiencies 🌬️ and habits transferred from thumb sucking 👍👶.
East Texas Orofacial Myology can address these habits and help protect the health of your teeth 🦷 and TMJ from the damaging effects of long-term nail biting.
🔹What Makes Orthodontic Work Successful?
Orthodontic work is successful when it achieves not only an aesthetically pleasing smile but also a functional bite and overall oral health.
Incorporating myofunctional therapy can further enhance the success of orthodontic treatment. Here are some of the benefits:
1. Establishing proper nasal breathing 🌬️
2. Establishing proper lip posture 👄
3. Establishing proper tongue posture 👅
4. Maintaining orthodontic stability 😊
Myofunctional therapy helps ensure that the muscles of the face and mouth are functioning correctly, which supports the stability of orthodontic results and promotes overall oral health. A Win Win! 👏
Do you have questions concerning Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and orthodontics?
