We’re excited about the way this kitchen remodel in Des Moines is coming together. Here are some progress pictures of one section of the kitchen. Still a couple weeks from completion but it has come a long way so far.

Hard to believe but this is a before and after of the same corner. During this kitchen remodel we opened up a closet that was behind this wall, and added some cherry cabinets to create a breakfast nook and dry bar.

If you are considering a kitchen remodel this fall or winter, we would be happy to discuss your project with you!

Your deck stairs can be a real focal point if you want them to be. This before and after is a great example of bringing attention to the staircase with an accent color and beautiful lighting.

Per square foot, bathrooms tend to be one of the most expensive areas of your entire home. However, it doesn't have to cost a small fortune if you are careful with the cosmetic selections you make.

On this West Des Moines hall bathroom we did a nice clean fiberglass tub and shower surround, waterproof luxury LVP flooring, and an inexpensive accent wall behind the toilet.

Simple remodels like this can also really enhance the value of your home if you plan to sell in the next several years.

A before and after of an Ankeny deck we expanded last year.

Did you know composite decking can come with 30,40, or 50 year guarantees? Combine that with aluminum railing and you might not have to do any deck maintenance for a very very long time!

What a difference! On this bathroom we took out the dividing wall between the shower/toilet room and the rest of the bathroom to make the space feel much larger.

Sometimes it can be hard to visualize the big changes in a project until you see side-by-side before and after pictures. We are going to start posting a lot more of these. If you like the changes, let us know in the comments!

This is a West Des Moines basement finish.

Another deck project completed - this time in the Ankeny Prairie Trail neighborhood. The customer chose TimberTech Silver Maple decking and black Westbury handrail. They also decided to go with side skirting to keep pets out from under the deck.

This is a front porch makeover in Dallas Center. The customer chose some great finishes for a very clean look. They went with the TimberTech Dark Roast decking and drink rail, TimberTech Classic Composite railing, and white PVC for fascia and skirting. These finishes give them a completely maintenance-free front porch. What a big difference!

A recently completed West Des Moines deck build. This client decided to reconfigure the layout just a little bit so the stairs would face the backyard, and fit their use of the space better. A before image is included at the end.

For the handrail, they chose the Westbury aluminum rail. This has easily become our most popular railing selection. Clients love knowing that their handrail is completely maintenance free, and will never need to be stained or painted!

This client in Windsor Heights wanted some shade on their back deck and a structural accent for their back yard. To accomplish that we built this 12'x12' pergola and installed a shade sail on top. A simple structure that will last a very long time.

EDUCATIONAL POST

One of the big issues we see today while removing old decks stems from how the deck is connected to the house. The deck framing that is attached to the house - called a ledger board - should always be connected directly to your house framing with no siding behind the ledger board, and flashed properly.

This method of connection serves two purposes. One is for strength. The second is to ensure that rain and melting snow cannot get between the deck and the house, creating rot over time.

This first image is how we properly attach and flash a deck ledger to the house. The other images are scenarios we have encountered over the last couple months showing the damage that can occur if your deck is not properly connected to your house.

To be fair, accepted building practices were much different 20+ years ago so this doesn't necessarily show bad workmanship. Rather, this is simply a good reason to have older decks inspected by experienced professionals.

This Waukee homeowner was looking for some extra backyard storage space so we converted the area under the deck stairs to a lockable storage shed.

Another great deck project completed in West Des Moines! This client chose the TimberTech Silver Maple decking with a maintenance free all aluminum railing option. We also installed a matching, self closing, gate at the top of the stairs. Have to keep those pets in!

We love seeing past projects. We built this pavilion about 2 years ago for the homeowners association at Napa Valley. We were in the area recently and decided to take some fresh photos. It is holding up great and getting lots of use!

It has been a very busy start to the warm season for us! This is a deck we recently completed in Indianola. The client chose to include a privacy fence on one side, and go with a maintenance free aluminum railing system.

We wanted to highlight this custom closet from our last project. The client had already visualized what they wanted and communicated that to us using some images from Pinterest. We then took measurements and did all the building off-site before finally installing everything.
These images show the closet from the design through the finished product.

This is a large master bathroom project we recently finished in Indianola. It was a very extensive project that included removing the existing walk-in shower, bathtub, and glass block window, and reconfiguring the space with a larger walk-in shower and linen closet. It also included a custom built master closet, custom countertop, and new hardwood flooring in the master bedroom. Before photos are included to highlight the difference!

This project was a relatively quick tub to shower conversion. Many homeowners are now opting to turn their tub spaces into large showers as the space is generally more usable.

It’s impossible to fit the entire year into a few images but these are just a few of our favorite projects this year. We are very grateful to the dozens of clients that trusted us with their work in 2023. We’re looking forward to what 2024 has in store! If you’re considering a deck build or interior work next year we’re happy to discuss your project with you!

This project was a complete deck rebuild in West Des Moines. The client decided to save some cost by selecting a pressure treated decking but also wanted a maintenance free handrail, so we installed the Westbury Black all-aluminum handrail. We also enlarged the deck area by 60%.

A deck project we recently completed in Clive. One unique aspect of this deck is a waterproofing system that keeps everything under the deck dry so the client can enjoy their hot tub no matter the weather. Decking is TimberTech Dark Roast.

Some before and after photos of a bathroom remodel we completed a few months ago. On this project we removed the dividing wall between the sink and shower areas to open up the space, and used some unique wall and ceiling accents.

We wrapped up this basement finish last month. This was an 8-week project that started with a completely unfinished space in an older West Des Moines home. There were many challenges but in the end we were able to add about 700 finished square feet for the client that included a 3/4 bathroom, wet bar, laundry area, and living space. We are currently booking more basement finishes for November-March. Let us know if you would like a quote!

We recently completed this deck project in Ankeny. This was a complete tear off and rebuild - with a sizable expansion to 20’x12’. The client chose a TimberTech decking with an all-aluminum Westbury handrail.
