We wanted to use National Postal Worker Day to take the opportunity to thank the hard-working people of the USPS for all they do for all of us. We in the Clerk-Recorder Office are reminded of this during election time when more than 22 million registered voter ballots are delivered to the Post Office for distribution throughout the State.

Thank you Postal Workers in Ventura County, California and throughout the Nation! US Postal Service

As we get close to the end of fiscal year 2023/2024, one of the last duties of the County Assessor’s office is the annual certification of the property assessment rolls.
The process is finalized with the signing of the letter of certification by Keith Taylor, County Assessor, which is attested to by Michelle Ascencion, County Clerk-Recorder.

Ramon and Annette brought family with them to help celebrate their wedding today.

The ringbearer was ready with the rings and the flowers girls came dressed in their flowers instead of carrying them. Clerk-Recorder Ascencion had the rare opportunity to officiate, and she was so pleased to perform the ceremony for the family of her former colleague, Oxnard Mayor Pro Tem Bryan MacDonald.

We're so happy Ramon and Annette came to share their wonderful wedding with us. Congratulations!

Tuesday was a very special day at the Board of Supervisors with one of our Clerk-Recorder team receiving their 25-year Ventura County Service Award. Kristi is one of the amazing, versatile members of the Clerk-Recorder team. Weddings, trainings, providing records-whatever it is, in the midst of working hard, Kristi always takes care of customers with a smile and a kind word.

Thank you for all you do and for being a key member of our team, Kristi! How could it already be 25 years?! We are a lucky department!

A time to remember the great sacrifices made by soldiers and their loved ones. Their bravery is honored and never forgotten.

Yes! Preparation has already started for the November 5, 2024 General Election. And one of the first things we do is get together with the City Clerks from Ventura County who are the Election Officials of their respective cities. We talk about any changes to documentation, new laws that have gone into effect, and all the actions that need to take place before and after November 5. Since this is such a smart and hard-working group, it's a great meeting. And for our Registrar of Voters, former City Clerk for many years in both Port Hueneme and Oxnard, it's a homecoming for her with long time friends and colleagues. We're looking forward to working with all our City partners. Thank you for coming out: City of Camarillo Government, City of Fillmore City of Moorpark Government City of Ojai - government City of Oxnard Government City of Port Hueneme - Government City of Santa Paula - Local Government City of Simi Valley Government City of Thousand Oaks - Local Government City of Ventura - Government

Today we started the One Percent Manual Tally/Audit designated as a key part of the Official Canvass per Election Code 15360. The audit is done in teams of three with one member reading the ballot results and two members tallying on separate sheets. There are also multiple supervisors assisting as well as members of the public observing the process.

One question we get a lot is "Why does counting the ballots take so long?" That's when we explain how we continue to fully verify every single ballot we receive, while completing the multiple steps we are required to fulfill for the Official Canvass.

Ventura County Voters Want to Know!

Why are the Ballot Drop Boxes in front of the Government Center unlocked?
That's part of the Canvass. When we are following up on the verification of a signature, we require you to return a form to us for further identification. One of the options for returning the document is by dropping it off in the Government Center drop boxes. Some voters prefer that option - especially as it gets closer to the deadline.
