Plastic use 🧴 harms the environment in a variety of different ways, including:

🏞️ Longevity: Most plastics do not biodegrade, instead they break down into smaller particles known as microplastics, which can persist in the environment for hundreds of years.
🌊 Pollution of oceans: Millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans every year, causing harm to marine life through ingestion and entanglement.
🐢 Impact on wildlife: A diverse range of wildlife mistake plastic for food or become entangled in plastic items.
👣 Carbon footprint: The production of plastic, especially from fossil fuels, contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.
🗑️ Landfill overflow: Plastics account for a large portion of municipal solid waste all over the world, overwhelming landfills and contributing to environmental degradation.

Help this worldwide 🌎 problem by avoiding single-use plastic items and plastics use whenever possible.

With the warm weather ☀️ getting closer, find more ways you can save water and keep your landscape healthy and maintained! 🏡 Some of the free services we provide that can help are:

💧High Efficiency Sprinkler Nozzles: This program allows you to water more efficiently by swapping old nozzles for high efficiency nozzles.

💧 Smart Irrigation Controller: The Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller lets you adjust your sprinklers through a mobile app. You can customize watering by plant, soil type and sun exposure and you can set it to delay watering when rain or wind events are in the forecast.

💧 Drip Irrigation Retrofit Program: This program reduces water consumption by replacing spray heads (sprinklers) with drip irrigation, allowing water to be placed right where it is needed at the root zone of plants.

💧 Turf Removal Program: The Water Wise Incentive Program has a goal to assist Ventura residents in reducing overall outdoor water usage. By replacing existing turf with low-water use plants and other approved materials, customers can receive a reimbursement of $2.50 per sq ft for up to 1,600 sq ft (for residential) or up to 3,200 sq ft (for commercial/multi-family homes). At least 50% of the replacement area must be low-water use plants and projects need to be pre-approved

📍 For more information on available programs visit the Ventura Water website under Community.

As World Oceans Week 🌊 ends, let's reflect on some of the reasons why the oceans are so important.

🐳 Environmental significance: Oceans cover over 70% of the Earth's surface and are vital for regulating climate and are home to diverse ecosystems and many marine species.
🦐 Food security: Oceans are a major source of protein for billions of people worldwide. Protecting marine habitats ensures the sustainability of fish populations and the livelihoods of communities dependent on fishing.
🦞 Biodiversity conservation: Oceans are rich in biodiversity, housing millions of species, many of which are yet to be discovered. Preserving marine habitats helps protect this biodiversity from threats of pollution, overfishing, and climate change.
🏝️ Human health: Oceans provide benefits for human health, from medicinal compounds derived from marine organisms to the overall well-being associated with coastal environments.
☀️ Climate regulation: Oceans play a key role in regulating the Earth's climate by storing and distributing solar energy and water v***r, influencing weather patterns and climate systems.
