✨Volunteer Spotlight of the Week: Sabrina ✨

We are thrilled to shine a light on Sabrina as our volunteer spotlight of the week. Sabrina is our spiritual development facilitator which means she brings her passion and dedication, guiding the residents on their journey of growth and connection.

Sabrina empowers the women to build strong connections with each other and deepen their spiritual paths.

"These amazing ladies have enriched my life in ways I never imagined. While they believe I am helping to heal them, they are actually healing me, and together, we are all being healed by God," - Sabrina

As the residents reflect on their time in the program, they consistently highlight the spiritual element as their favorite part. They truly value and appreciate Sabrina's guidance in this aspect of the program.

The women have a deep admiration for Sabrina and her ability to facilitate meaningful discussions. Her relatable approach and willingness to challenge them to reach their full potential in Christ have made a lasting impact on their lives.

Thank you, Sabrina, for your exemplary leadership, selflessness, and unwavering love for these beautiful women. You are truly an inspiration. 💫

Happy Friday everyone!👋

Today we have a special announcement to make. Poiema Movement recently joined an organization called Christian Alliance for Orphans or CAFO.🎉Our membership with CAFO will allow our team to receive training that will help us serve vulnerable families and children within our community. We want to align ourselves with organizations like CAFO whose values and mission will position us to best serve the women and their children who walk through our doors. We are so excited to see the positive impact this partnership will have on our community and want to thank CAFO for this incredible opportunity.

✨ POIEMA STAFF SPOTLIGHT: ERIN✨

Join us in celebrating our Resident Monitor Erin.🎉

Erin’s presence strengthens the program’s impact by providing residents with a living example of successful recovery and transformation, reinforcing the belief in their own potential to rebuild and thrive. It is an honor and joy to watch how the Lord is using Erin's gifts and story to reach the women we serve.🙌

***Below you will learn more about Erin***

🌿1. What is your role and what are your main responsibilities?
I am the resident monitor which means I am the eyes and ears of the house, listening to the residents and providing support when needed. I complete curfew checks, assist with driving and develop relationships with all the residents. I have the unique perspective of being on both sides as a former resident and now a staff member. I know how hard it can be to work this program and know and what you have to do to succeed.

🌿2. How long have you been at Poiema and what drew you to work here?
I came to Poiema on March 7th 2023 as a resident and began working here on January 1st 2024. I needed somewhere safe to live and specifically needed a sober living environment that was close to home.

🌿3. What do you enjoy most about working here?
I enjoy the sisterhood. 💞Growing up close to my sisters, friends and teammates shaped who I am today. I have had friends for over 20 years and that sisterhood has saved me. Poiema embodies this and has gifted me with a group of women who support and uplift one another. The comradery, friendship and loyalty built at Poiema allows me to lean on people that I know I can trust.

🌿4. Tell us a fun fact about you?
I am OBSESSED with the Olympics and all things sports related. 🥇I was even watching the badminton and break dancing rounds when the Olympics were on. 🤣Whatever the sport is, I am locked in. I am hoping to go the Olympics in LA in 2028... we'll see!

We invite you to celebrate Erin and thank her for all the hard work and unwavering dedication she contributes to the program. We are SO grateful for you Erin and we can't wait to continue seeing you shine. 🤩🥳🌟

We are honored to share a remarkable achievement within our community: this past year, four of our participants successfully transitioned into sustainable independence. This is a significant milestone considering our capacity of eight resident beds. These accomplishments serve as powerful examples of what is possible when determination is met with unwavering support, reinforcing our commitment to change lives and strengthen our community one person at a time. Thank you to EVERYONE who helped make this possible. 🎉👏🤍🙌🎊

Welcome to a behind-the-scenes look at Poiema Movement. Once a month, a chef comes out to the house and shares his culinary creations. He cooks a delicious and nourishing meal for the residents. This creates a sense of community and bonding. We believe that food has the power to bring people together and create memorable experiences. We are so grateful for people in our community who share their talents and passions for the women at Poiema. 🧀🥩🌮🥕🍰🍅🥗😋

✨ Volunteer Spotlight of the Week: Quadesha Bynum✨

We are honored to recognize Quadesha this week! Quadesha supports the Program Director in oversight of the Personal Development Program team. She is also a group facilitator within this team. Her groups have included Career/Resume/Job Source training and Nutrition and Healthy meal preparation. She has assisted with events and avails herself when a need arises. She has been an essential leader since the inception of the Personal Development group.

"Quadesha is a team player, she is a joy to work with. The residents love her as she is warm and authentic. What I often hear from her is, "whatever you need just let me know." She also supports the staff through prayer and encouragement. She is a gift."
- Ruth Proffitt, Program Director

Quadesha commented that volunteering has given her an opportunity to be present in the moment and it has helped her realize that she is doing the thing that God has asked her to do and that is to be of service.

We are so blessed that she is doing what God has called her to do and grateful to work alongside such a talented and hardworking individual. 🌟

✨ Volunteer Spotlight of the Week: Jessica Strong✨

It's a new week, which means we have the opportunity to honor an incredible volunteer Jessica Strong. Jessica's dedication, passion and intentionality have truly made a difference in our organization and the lives of those we serve.

"Volunteering with Poiema shows me the Gospel in action. The staff and volunteers are the active hands and feet of Jesus meeting women where they are and equipping them with tangible skills to live independently. Supporting the residents as they walk their individual journeys of spiritual, emotional and physical transformation is a privilege and an honor. It encourages me in my own walk to go deeper with Jesus." - Jessica S.

Whether Jessica is driving or mentoring a resident, assisting in community outreach, providing program support or consistently praying for the residents and staff members of Poiema, she shows up with a servant's heart. Her joy is contagious!

Thank you Jessica for your unwavering commitment and for being a shining example of love and service.💕 Your contributions do not go unnoticed and we are so grateful to have you as part of our team. Keep shining bright!🌟

🌟 Celebrating the Three Pillars of Support at Poiema 🌟

Thanks to the insightful framework from the Institute for Shelter Care every transformation story at Poiema Movement is powered by three essential levels of support:

What She Does: Each woman brings personal resilience and determination to work the program, embodying the strength and perseverance required to change her life.

What the Community Does: Our community provides the vital support needed to empower her on her journey, offering resources, encouragement, and a network of care that surrounds each woman with love and support.

What Only God Can Do: At the deepest level, we witness the restoration of the soul through divine grace, bringing profound inner healing that renews spirit and purpose.

Together, these supports weave a tapestry of change, enabling our women to rise and rebuild with strength, dignity, and hope. Join us in celebrating and supporting these incredible journeys of transformation!

Let's continue to uplift and empower each woman as she rewrites her story! 🌼
