The results of this survey will help us to develop new programs and enhance current programs to address the biggest health needs in the county.

The NAACP Maryland State Conference is holding its annual convention in Charles County, Maryland, on October 27 & 28, 2023, at the College of Southern Maryland. The theme of this year’s convention is “United in the Fight.” As you might guess, most of our discussions will focus on equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminating discrimination, and accelerating the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color.

What: Public Hearing on Bill 2023-(9) Healthy Meals for Children
The Bill: Requires Charles County restaurants to provide at least one healthy meal and beverage option (that meets nutritional standards) on its children's' menu. This bill will only apply to restaurants with children's' menus. It does not exclude other meals from being on the Children's'.

Today the branch hosted and had a great day with the kids at the Healthy Kids Festival at North Point High School!
A Healthy Kids Fun Fest is Saturday, October 7, at North Point High School. Sponsored by the Charles County, Maryland NAACP Branch #7016, the event is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will include healthy snacks, along with demonstrations and educational activities for children.
CCPS staff members will be available to talk with parents and families. The event is free and supported by the American Heart Association, the Center for Science in the Public Interest, the Charles County Department of Health and Charles County Public Schools.

The founder of ACT-SO, Vernon Jarrett, a renowned author and journalist, initiated the idea of a program that would promote and reward academic achievers the same way sports heroes are honored. WHAT ARE THE STUDENTS BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING IN ACT-SO PROGRAM?
The ACT-SO program is intended to be a learning experience, first and foremost. Students will work with ACT-SO mentors who help them develop projects throughout the year online and in-person. The local program also provides the students with enrichment opportunities. The benefits ACT-SO Olympians receive from the enrichment and mentorship components include substantial assistance toward the development of their ACT-SO projects and valuable tools to assist them throughout their education.
WHO WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN ACT-SO PROGRAM?
High school students who are citizens of the United States, enrolled in grades 9-12 and are amateurs in the categories of competition are able to participate.
