Meet a new addition to our Raga team, Dave Larot !

David stepped on the mat for the first time in 2002 and began his lifelong yoga journey. Under the guidance of his first teacher, he started leading classes in 2004 at local gyms and studios. In 2008, after four years of searching for a complete teacher training program, Dave enrolled in the 200-hour YTT at Yoga Works SF. Inspired by his mentor Nikki Estrada, he went on to complete his 500-hour training and, in 2010, took the leap from his full-time job of ten years with AT&T to put all his energy and focus into teaching and sharing the practice of yoga. Since then, David has been leading classes around the Bay Area and workshops and retreats around the globe. Having practiced and trained in various styles, including Iyengar and Ashtanga, David’s classes have evolved into a deep, methodical, and dynamic flow, focusing on the importance of breath and the principles of alignment.

You can practice with Dave:
Thursdays at 4pm Flow
Fridays at 4:30pm FlowOm 🆕
Sundays at 10:30am FlowOm 🆕

Please join us for Marlena’s farewell class this Thursday at 7pm so we can send her off into her next chapter with lots of love, hugs and gratitude! 🦋 We will miss you, Marlena!!! 🩵

Repost• It is with a heavy heart that I write this post… As some of you know, I’ve been dealing with a knee injury for the past year, and underwent Phase 1 of my surgery journey last August. I was recently informed that my Phase 2 surgery has just been scheduled for 4/10. Subsequently, my husband and I have made the decision to relocate to be closer to family this summer. Therefore next Thursday 4/4 at 7pm will be my last class teaching at and in the Bay Area ☹️

To all of my students past and present, I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing in this practice of yoga with me for the past 13 years. It has been my honor and my pleasure to share space and energy with you, to laugh and play with you and to learn and grow with you as well.

To and the rest of my Raga Yoga family, thank you for welcoming me into your community when COVID left me without a place to practice and teach in person. The studio, the students and the deep warmness I feel every time I step through the doors has been priceless!

I’m not really sure where this next chapter in my yoga story will take me at this point, but I know that practicing and teaching over the years has allowed me to uncover my most authentic and genuine self, and so I hope to find a yoga home in our new city where I can continue to share the gift of this practice for many years to come.

I got to share a few tears and hugs with some of my regular students last night, but if you’re around, I’d love to share a few more with you next Thursday. If not, I wish you well in your journey, your practice and in life 🥰

Aum, peace, love and blessings to each of you…not gonna say goodbye, just farewell for now 🙏🏽🥹
~Lena

Do you incorporate Pranayama into your yoga practice?💨

Pranayama, known as breathwork or breath control, helps us regulate our energy and focus by bringing intention into one of our body’s most important subconscious functions. Pranayama is also the fourth limb of the eight limbs of yoga set by Pantanjali.

There are many Pranayama techniques and each provides different benefits. For example, Ujjayi Breath (Victorious Breath) is popular for its soothing oceanic sound that boosts concentration, relaxation, and energy. Sama Vritti Pranayama (Box Breathing) is another popular technique beloved for its incredible ability to calm and soothe the mind. There’s also Dirgha Pranayama (Three-Part Breath), Nadi Shodhana Pranayama (Alternate Nostril Breath) and Kapalabhati Pranayama (Breath of Fire), and more.

Do you have a favorite style of breath practice? 🌬️
