CGTC Child Development Center

An Educational laboratory providing a high quality early childhood program for college students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Our program promotes meaningful experiences, relationship development and a desire for lifelong learning.

Tonight families from the Center were joined by Resilient Middle Georgia for a screening of the award winning film Resilience.

Stress can be traumatic for children when it is persistent… but there is hope! Connections with others can be protective factors for young children — relationships that lower stress and introduce ways for us to build our resilience muscle.

While everyone is walking away a broader understanding tonight, every parenting student with the Start Titan Strong (STS) program at the center will receive a resilience kit from Resilient Middle Georgia with practical ways to exercise their resilience muscle and be one one those positive connections for their children.

Start Titan Strong - supported by the federal CCAMPIS grant — joins eligible parenting students on their journey, providing childcare tuition scholarships for dedicated slots at our on campus Child Development Centers, connecting parents with knowledge and resources about their children, parenting, and their own emotional well-being, all in an effort to help them persist and complete their learning.

Walking with children and parents as they learn and grow on the same college campus.

Our work changes lives.

When you're an explorer, another week is NEVER just another week.

We believe children explore their environment through play -- that's what they are built to do. So it is our job to curate that environment with exciting materials, engaging people, and purposeful opportunities to explore, try things, and learn from the results.

And to be able to do all that... children have to feel safe. Among the learning how to wash our hands and get from the classroom to the playground, we are really assessing every moment: am I safe here? Is safe to try things here? Is it safe to do this?

Building relationships. Setting boundaries. Learning routines. This is how we -- children and adults -- earn our tired for the first few weeks!

As someone wise once said, it's a good tired.

Scientists have cutting edge technology to scan kids' brains. But it wasn't built for all heads 06/27/2024

Lab schools are child-serving centers that exist in part to support learning and research. CGTC Child Development Centers are proud to host students from many area institutions as they develop their craft.

Students from Mercer are starting to hone their skills of clinical observation in natural early learning environments by spending time in CGTC CDCs alongside professors like Dr. Kerr-German.

Our families in return will see family information sessions with this group from Mercer about early childhood mental health and signs of common conditions that can derail typical development — and what to do from there.

Good for children.
Good for families.
Good for students.
That’s good stuff. That’s lab school stuff.

Sneak a peak at some of the work Dr. Kerr-German is engaged in at Mercer and how CGTC CDCs are playing a part in helping Mercer students build skills to inform possible future research with young children — courtesy of GPB.

Here is your sign to visit a library this summer.

We are lucky to have a campus library that is inviting and welcomes our groups to come browse. We can even borrow books for the classroom for a while, then return them later.

Library skills -- how to browse, when to (and when not to) reshelve books ourselves, how to care for borrowed books, how to return books -- these are life-long-learner skills.

How cool our library friends help reinforce the joy of reading -- and only a stroll away! Thanks, friends, for inviting us and investing in our tiniest Titans. We love it when we !

Another day, another chance to host college students!

Physical Therapy Assistant students from CGTC joined our groups today to explore fine and gross motor development in children. With groups ranging from toddlers to school age children, these students will have a lot to talk about when they debrief with each other later!

Being a lab school means the children and families of our Centers are just a few of the folks that learn here. College students, industry professionals, environmental assessors, state and local leaders, and other stakeholders spend time with us to see the story beyond the page and try their hand at our version of exploring each day.

We proudly collaborate with our friends across campus, across town, and across the nation to add value to their work!
.. and rumor has it these PTA students will be back later in the summer to have some serious fun.

Because learning in the classroom and in the lab would not be a complete experience without putting that learning to use!

Our work changes lives.
Children explore and experience
Families are equipped and empowered
Students expound on classroom instruction
Practices grows and evolves in us and through us

And at the heart of all this work are our teachers --
early learning professionals who
see children as capable, creative beings
eager to connect and ready to construct new understanding
on their path to becoming.

All while lifting up families and raising up students on their own journeys of being and discovery.

More than daycare. Much more than babysitting.
Nationally accredited, Quality Rated childcare -- a working lab school -- a place for children, families, and students to learn and grow together.

Are you ready to change lives? An application is step one.

Pardon our progress as we intentionally reimagine our spaces to better support our children, families, and students!

We have been busy today putting new seating in place around the center. Thanks to Start Titan Strong funded by the CCAMPIS grant, pockets of seating for families to connect with each other, their children, and staff in formal and informal conversations can be found in our lobby and around the building!

CCAMPIS funds are also supporting Start Titan Strong’s new vision for our front patio. Pieces of the outdoor learning environment and rising toy area are making their debut today with more to come.

The CCAMPIS grant — Child Care Access Means Parents In School — funds projects across the nation to encourage parenting students to persist and complete their journey toward a credential. From offsetting the cost of childcare at on-campus children’s centers to enhancing supports for parenting students to helping early learning programs to reach and maintain national accreditation, CCAMPIS gives institutions the flexibility to meet the unique needs of their parenting students.

One in four children currently attending CGTC’s Child Development Centers is a child of a PELL eligible CGTC student.

Our District will hold Kindergarten Round-up from May 1 to May 31. During Kindergarten Round-up, parents are encouraged to register their rising kindergarteners for the 2024-2025 school year. Registration takes place at the Central Registration office, located at 410 Bear Country Boulevard in Warner Robins.

“Kindergarten is such an exciting time, and we are excited to welcome these new students to our District,” said Dr. Cheryl Thomas, Assistant Superintendent for School Operations. “All parents are encouraged to register their upcoming kindergarten students in May so they can beat the summer registration rush.”

All families who register for kindergarten between May 1-May 31 will be entered in a drawing for a free TV or free iPad, compliments of the Bazemore Cosby Group with Southern Classic Realtors.

For details regarding the registration process, visit www.hcbe.net/centralregistration/kk.

This morning a peacock tried to join the Center. Sadly, he did not have a birth date, so he could not join our waitlist.

He took a look at the playground before reluctantly making his way somewhere else.

Start your engines... Pre-K Registration for 2024-2025 school year is now open for everyone!

Step one: complete our online interest form -- https://schools.procareconnect.com/register/62455aec-1c64-4ace-87d7-3aa16656e695 It's not time for *all the paperwork* just yet.

Step three: Respond when we reach out by email later this year. We will touch base with everyone who expressed interest after Houston County Schools holds their lottery, just to make sure you still need a spot.

Step four: After we remove children who have a spot elsewhere, we will extend invitations to join us for the 2024-2025 GA Pre-K year. That's the time for *all the paperwork*.

Questions? emailing [email protected] is a grand way to learn more.

On this day when many show kindness and affection to others, we invited some friends who are very different than us, but we can still find ways to show kindness to them.

Exploration Herpetology brought several friends to visit! We listened as Mr. Paul told us about these interesting animals. While we could touch some of the friends today in the classroom with Mr. Paul, we should never touch them if we see them anywhere else like the yard or outside.

We are all different. Some of us held some reptile friends. Some of us were more comfortable looking from afar. No matter how we interacted, we all agreed it was an exciting opportunity!

No matter who you cuddle and how you share your kindness, we hope today is a day where you find belonging and acceptance. Wishing you well!
