August is National Breastfeeding Month. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program has 50 years of experience in helping parents with their feeding concerns. WIC offers practical and hands-on support for every challenge, from latching issues to low milk supply. Many offices have peer counselor programs celebrating 20 years of peer-to-peer breastfeeding support.

Whether it's sharing experiences or offering a listening ear, WIC is here for you every step of the way.

Over the past year, community leaders have come together to create Live Well Humboldt as an enduring organization. Development of Home Supportive Services (DHSS) recruitment and registry staff will be tabling at several local events throughout August. Years in the making, the Hyperion Crisis Residential Treatment Facility in Eureka is ready for clients following a ribbon cutting and tour on Friday, Aug. 16. The collaborative effort came to fruition following $2 million in funding secured by California Senate President Pro Tempore Mike McGuire, working closely with DHHS Behavioral Health staff on design. Inside, the 10-bed home will provide resident treatment and support to mental health clients who have exited acute psychiatric hospitalization or are needing higher levels of care toward stabilization. DHHS has contracted with Willow Glen Care Center to provide 24-hour staffing and care.
