AmeriCorps Office of Inspector General The AmeriCorps Office of Inspector General was created by the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993.
Our authority is statutory and comes from the Inspector General Act of 1978 as amended, and the Inspector General Reform Act of 2008,which directs Inspectors General to:
1) Conduct and supervise independent and objective audits and investigations relating to agency programs and operations.
2) Promote economy, effectiveness and efficiency within the agency.

This month, we honor the heritage and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders throughout our history. We are especially grateful for the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders serving with AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors programs.

: Abe is an who works at USAID Office of Inspector General. He served in the Zambia from 2012-14 as a teacher and enjoyed making intentional relationships with community members. He now works to provide oversight and improve USAID and the MCC's missions.
: Laura is an who works at USAID Office of Inspector General. She served in Peru from 2014-16 helping women gain access to micro-credit and teaching high school business. She now works to ensure that vital USAID assistance benefits those who need it most.
: Emily is an who works at AmeriCorps OIG. She served in Boston, MA in 2007 connecting college students to local volunteer projects. Now, she is proud to work on a team protecting the future of AmeriCorps and national service.
: Malea is an who works at USAID Office of Inspector General. She served in Lesotho from 2013-15 teaching English and Health while taking in the stunning views of the mountains. She now works as an to safeguard and strengthen US foreign assistance.
: Genesis is an who works at AmeriCorps OIG. She served in the Republic of Benin from 2014-16 teaching English to middle school and high school students. She now holds bad actors accountable who would defraud AmeriCorps.

In response to our , AmeriCorps agreed to recover over $3million in funds related to YouthBuild’s insufficient subgrantee monitoring. AmeriCorps declined to disallow or put to better use another $3million in funds related to noncompliant timekeeping practices.

Our performance of AmeriCorps grants awarded to YouthBuild USA found that YouthBuild did not comply with Federal or AmeriCorps requirements and identified a monetary of over $6 million.

U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) was asked to review issues related to AmeriCorps' management of fraud risks in its grant programs. GAO made 10 recommendations, including that AmeriCorps plan and conduct regular program-level fraud risk assessments.
