Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

Saadh Sangat Ji,

Please join us in remembering Shaheedi of Guru Arjan Dev Ji on Sunday, 16-June-2024. Also there will be Akhand Paath seva starting from 14-Jun-2024 and ending on 16-Jun-2024.

Akhand Paath:
Paath Start Date: 14-Jun-2024, Friday 05:00AM onwards
Paath End Date: 16-Jun-2024, Sunday around 07:00AM

NOTE: Please contact Bhai Sahib Surinder Singh Ji at (202) 957-7794 OR Inderjit Sawhney Ji at (443) 786-4063 for path sewa.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the first martyr of the Sikh faith and fifth of the ten Sikh Gurus, who compiled writings to create our holy book Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

One of the greatest contribution of Guru Arjan Dev Ji made to the Sikh faith was to compile all of the past Gurus' writings, along with selected writings of other saints from different backgrounds which he considered consistent with the teachings of Sikhism into one book, now the holy scripture: the Guru Granth Sahib.

Guru Arjan was arrested under the orders of the Mughal Emperor Jahangir and asked to convert to Islam. In June 1606, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir ordered that Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru be tortured and sentenced to death after the Guru had refused to stop preaching his message of God as started by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The Guru was made to sit on a burning hot sheet while boiling hot sand was poured over his body. After enduring five days of unrelenting torture, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was taken for a bath in the river. As thousands watched he entered the river, never to be seen again.

NOTE: There is ample amount of parking in Gurdwara basement and also street parking is free on Sunday.

Warm Regards,
Sikh Gurdwara, DC

Sun, 04/14: Vaisakhi and Guru Nanak Dev Ji Janam Diwas Celebrations in Sikh Gurdwara DC

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

Saadh Sangat Ji,

Let's celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji Janam Diwas, the first Sikh Guru. Apart from Sikhs, Hindus and other followers of Guru Nanak's philosophy also celebrate this festival. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, was born on April 15, 1469.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled far and wide teaching people the message of one God who dwells in every one of His creations and constitutes the eternal Truth. He set up a unique spiritual, social, and political platform based on equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teaching is understood to be practiced in three ways:

Vaṇḍ Chakko: Sharing with others, helping those with less who are in need
Kirat Karo: Earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud
Naam Japna: Meditating on God's name to control the five weaknesses of the human personality.
These five weakness are kaam (lust), krodh (rage), lobh (greed), moh(attachment) and ahankar (conceit).

This Vaisakhi festival is very special and important for the Sikh community as it marks the establishment of the Khalsa which is also termed Khalsa Sirjana Divas.

Also, Vaisakhi is a Punjabi harvest festival for people of the Punjab region. This day is also observed as a thanksgiving day by farmers whereby farmers pay their tribute, thanking God for the abundant harvest and also praying for future prosperity.

Sun, 12-Nov-2023 - Regular and Special Diwan on Diwali (Bandi Chor Diwas) in Sikh Gurdwara, DC

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

Bandi Chhor Diwas is a day on which Guru Hargobind Sahib was released with 52 Kings from Gwalior Prison. The word "Bandi" means "imprisoned", "Chhor" means "release" and "Divas" means "day" and together "Bandi Chhor Divas" means Prisoner Release Day. It is celebrated with great joy as it was a time when "right" prevailed over "wrong". The Mughals had held many hundreds of prisoners who were effectively "political prisoners" and were otherwise innocent leaders of their communities. They had been held without trial or any other legal process; jailed by brute force; held against their wishes. The lives of 52 local kings had been saved without a single shot and without a battle!

Regular Diwan in morning and Special Diwan in evening:
Date: Sun, 12-Nov-2023
Evening Diwan Time: 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM EST

You are most welcome! (Jee Aayan Nu!)
