Today, we honor the 59th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This landmark legislation dismantled barriers that disenfranchised African American voters and paved the way for our participation in our democracy.
THIS ACT:
Increased voter registration and turnout among African. Americans and other minorities
Eliminated discriminatory practices like literacy tests and poll taxes
Strengthen our democracy through expanded protections in subsequent amendments
Let’s celebrate this milestone by recommitting ourselves to the fight for voting rights and making our democracy more inclusive and fair for all.

Yesterday, our nation and world lost a giant of a leader, public servant, women’s rights advocate, warrior for justice, in the passing of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee
There was never a time that I called on The Congresswoman and she wouldn't move mountains to join us in our fights for justice!
One of those examples of her showing up for the fight for justice took place, 3 years ago on July 15, 2021, when she joined Black women and our allies in a rally and peaceful protest fighting for federal voting rights reform on Capitol Hill.
Not only did she show up, she went to jail with us!
I will 'never forget to remember' The Congresswoman, Sheila Jackson Lee, and will keep her legacy alive by fighting for our rights, freedoms, democracy and justice for our people every day that God grants me on this earth.
Praying for her family and may she rest in eternal peace and power...
