In the Portland State Russian Flagship Program students develop their Russian proficiency to a professional level while they pursue the major of their choice. PSU has particularly strong programs in Environmental Studies, Politics and Global Affairs, Applied Linguistics, among others. The University Honors College is also an exciting intellectual home for students. The Flagship Program is a particularly good fit for Startalk students because it offers many opportunities to engage in public service. A number of PSU students have won Boren Scholarships to fund their capstone year abroad. Today people unite in a worldwide act of generosity. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 with a simple premise: it's a day that encourages people to do good.
Today, we invite you to join the movement and donate to the ACTR Professional Development Fund in honor of Olga E. Kagan. This fund supports instructors of any rank as well as graduate students in their growth as language teachers. Two grants awarded annually help offset the cost of professional development. By donating to this fund, you will support current and future generations of Russian language instructors.
We recognize that you are hearing from many organizations with a call to engage in the movement's "radical generosity" and we are grateful for your consideration for ACTR's mission. If you are also interested in donating to other ACTR programs, please follow the link in the first comment area.
ACTR is a member-supported organization, and it is our joint efforts that make the organization's support for the teaching and learning of Russian stronger.

The need for specialized communication abilities across various vocations proliferates today. To address this need, it is urgently necessary to switch from conventional language and cultural programs to more specialized, profession-specific courses such as Japanese for business, Spanish for healthcare, or French for culinary arts. This presentation presents the idea of World Languages for Specific Purposes, discusses its significance, and suggests ways to easily incorporate WLSP courses, majors, and certifications into current language and culture programs.

Join American Councils to increase access for American students who are traditionally underrepresented in study abroad by supporting the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Fund. As scholarship recipient Candy Zheng attests, โThe Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship took a burden off my shoulders, giving me the chance to truly focus on improving my language skillset and gaining new professional experience without worrying about how I would pay for my program.โ
Candy's transformative experience in Taiwan through the Overseas Professional and Intercultural Training (OPIT) program fulfilled a crucial requirement for her International Affairs and Modern Language degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and opened new career avenues. Thanks to the support of the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship Fund, her time abroad was both impactful and financially stress-free. Today, Candy's proficiency in Mandarin has grown, and she's exploring career paths she had never considered before her OPIT journey.
โNot only does my study abroad experience fulfill this degree requirement, but it has also allowed me to broaden my potential career outlooks to possibly pursuing a profession in international education, something I had not yet considered before participating in OPIT.โ
Discover how your support for this scholarship can ensure all deserving students can access international education opportunities. Learn more at https://www.americancouncils.org/diversity-and-inclusion-fund
