On July 11, 1991, a total solar eclipse occurred that could be seen in Hawaii, Mexico, Central America and also in several South American countries. That day the Mexican photographer Antonio Turok took this magnificent photograph from Chiapas, Mexico.

What an interesting exhibition!

Sad news. I previously worked at PBS and have great respect for MacNeil, Lehrer and the NewsHour program. True integrity and leadership in journalism. He will be missed.

We are saddened to hear of the passing of our former trustee, Robin MacNeil.

MacNeil was a trailblazer in broadcast journalism. He created the PBS newscast, The MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour, now known as PBS NewsHour, in the 1970s and co-anchored the show with the late Jim Lehrer for two decades. It became the nation's first one-hour evening news broadcast.

MacNeil embodied the principles of the First Amendment and the power of a free press, and he will be missed dearly. May he rest in peace.

A rare solar eclipse darkened skies and dazzled viewers across the U.S. Crowds and clouds didn't stop people from gathering across the path of totality. Viewers craned their necks and clapped as skies briefly darkened, a sight the U.S. won't see again until 2044.
