On April 19, 2024, over two hundred Asian Americans and their supporters gathered in front of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Miami, vehemently opposing the targeted SB264 bill. If passed, this legislation would have a profound negative impact on the Asian residents of Florida.

The rally was particularly significant as it coincided with the court's hearing on this critical bill. The hearing would determine whether an injunction against the SB264 bill would be implemented, affecting not only Florida but potentially setting a crucial legal precedent for the protection of Asian community rights across the United States. Attendees demonstrated the unity and strength of the Asian community and their unwavering commitment to equality and justice.

The president of the United Chinese Americans (UCA), Haipei Xue, Texas Representative Gene Wu, and attorney Ke Liang Zhu from the Chinese American Legal Defense Alliance (CALDA) all made special trips to support this gathering, marking a significant moment of community resistance.

At the courthouse entrance, participants held up banners proclaiming "Justice for All" and "Stop AAPI Hate," loudly voicing their opposition to racism and unjust laws. This rally was not only a protest but also a manifestation of unity and a steadfast defense of equality and justice, deeply resonating with the community and broader groups.

In the quiet town of Norwood, MA, 18-year-old Ethan Guo is gearing up for a record-setting journey across the skies. 🌏✈️

This young aviation enthusiast is embarking not just on a self-challenge but a mission to raise $1 million for cancer research at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, aspiring to become the youngest pilot to fly solo across all seven continents.

Growing up in Milton, MA, Ethan's passion for flying has been sky-high since childhood. At 13, he started plotting this transcontinental flight journey.

However, the dream took on a profound purpose when his 18-year-old cousin was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin's lymphoma. Ethan's flight mission gained a new objective: bringing hope and support to cancer patients.

Despite meticulous planning, Ethan's aerial voyage wasn't without challenges. During his first attempt six months ago, he encountered an engine failure at 12,000 feet, leading to an emergency landing with no injuries.

With months of adjustments and a new engine, Ethan is ready to brave steadier skies with an even steadier resolve.

"To all young dreamers and future aviators: Dream big, aim far, and never dismiss those dreams as mere fantasies. But be prepared to make sacrifices for the goals you seek," Ethan says.

This spirit of daring to dream makes Ethan an inspiring figure in the AAPI community and across Massachusetts.

Set to take off in mid-May, the journey ahead is not just a circumnavigation but a profound exploration and realization of life.

As Ethan's plane soars across continents this summer, he's not only fundraising for those battling cancer but bringing hope to humanity, symbolizing resilience against adversity for his AAPI brethren.

As he departs in mid-May, Ethan Guo's voyage will be etched in history, marking not just an aviation feat but a tale of AAPI community's self-transcendence and societal contribution.

Let's rally behind Ethan as he takes to the skies, making waves and change, one flight at a time. 🌟

This will be the first school in Brooklyn to be named after an Asian-American and the second in New York City. 🗓️ On April 19th, the UCA will take a stand against SB264, a bill proposing unjust restrictions on property ownership based on racial lines, explicitly targeting the Chinese community in Florida. This is not just a local issue—it's about defending the fundamental American principles of equality and property rights for all. Join us in safeguarding these values and show that discrimination has no place in our society. Let's rally together to make a difference!

Over the past decade, the number of U.S. students studying in China has significantly declined due to economic conditions and the pandemic. In the early 2000s to the early 2010s, as China's economy grew rapidly and globalization advanced, the number of American students studying in China was relatively high, reaching a peak of over 14,000 around 2010. However, this number has sharply fallen to approximately 700 due to recent geopolitical tensions, reduced economic opportunities, and constraints on education and personal freedoms.

Stephen Garrett, a 27-year-old graduate student, once dreamed of studying in China. However, he and many American youths were deterred by China's stringent COVID-19 prevention measures during the pandemic. Even after these policies were relaxed, he noticed a significant drop in interest among his peers regarding studying in China.

The reduction in student exchanges between the U.S. and China could exacerbate misunderstandings and create barriers, adding uncertainty to future bilateral relations. To address these challenges, officials from both countries recognize the need to restore and increase student exchanges, which are widely seen as crucial for understanding each other’s cultures and viewpoints and laying the groundwork for future cooperation.

The loss of these opportunities for exchange is regrettable, as experts believe it deprives young people of the chance to experience life in China and gain in-depth knowledge. The decrease in student exchanges may deepen the divide between the two countries, potentially leading to greater misunderstandings.

To counter these issues, both sides need to collaborate actively, adopting measures such as simplifying visa procedures, offering more scholarship opportunities, and increasing bilateral academic projects and research collaborations. Strengthening cultural and educational exchanges will be a key factor in advancing U.S.-China educational relations.

As globalization progresses, the importance of international education and the mobility of talent is becoming increasingly apparent. By enhancing and improving student exchanges, the U.S. and China can not only provide broader perspectives and more opportunities for the younger generation but also lay a solid foundation for the long-term healthy development of bilateral relations.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has just released a landmark revision of Statistical Policy Directive No. 15: Standards for Maintaining, Collecting, and Presenting Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity. Marking its first update since 1997, this revision aims to enhance the accuracy and practicality of federal race and ethnicity data, ensuring comparability across federal agencies and improving understanding of federal programs' impacts on a diverse America.

🔍 Revision Journey:
Initiated in June 2022, the OMB convened an interagency technical working group of federal government career staff from 35 agencies. Over two years, this team reviewed over 20,000 public comments and held nearly 100 hearings, culminating in the significant standards we announce today.

🌟 Highlights of the Revision:
Merging the collection of race and ethnicity information into a single question.
Encouraging respondents to select multiple identities that apply.
Adding Middle Eastern or North African as one of the minimum race and/or ethnicity categories.
Requires the collection of additional detailed information in most instances for further segmentation in data collection, tabulation, and presentation.

📈 Implementation & Compliance:
To ensure consistency and comparability of race and ethnicity data within the federal government, the OMB mandates federal agencies to begin updating their surveys and administrative forms as soon as possible, aiming for full compliance with the updated standards within five years from today.

🔬 Ongoing Evolution:
Acknowledging the evolving nature of racial and ethnic identities, concepts, and data needs, the OMB has also established an Interagency Committee for the Review of the Racial and Ethnic Standards, convened by the U.S. Chief Statistician's Office. This committee will oversee a government-wide research agenda and periodically review Directive No. 15.

This monumental effort by the OMB and the interagency technical working group reflects the perspectives of federal agency employees and the involvement of the public. We look forward to working with all community members to implement these revisions, aiming to elevate the influence of the Chinese-American community and all diverse groups in American society.

Join us today as we raise our voices in action. Stand with us and multiple ethnic organizations at the University of Florida-Gainesville campus this afternoon to protest against the SB 846 bill. This restrictive bill discriminates against foreign students and faculty, suppressing the spirit of freedom. UF professors and students are courageously leading the organization and participation of this protest, and UCA President Haipei Shue will attend on our behalf.

As President Shue says, “This discriminatory law is the return of McCarthyism, pure and simple. Florida is the first state ever in the history of the US to restrict foreign students and faculty for political reasons. A shameful first! Our country didnot pass such laws even during the darkest hours of the Cold War against Soviet Union! How far and how low will De Santis go in dragging the hospitable sunshine name of Florida through the red-baiting mud? ”

Let's stand up today at noon to defend our values and educational freedom!

Asian American dolls are now on sale at Macy's. Recently, Macy's announced the sale of the first Asian American doll, Jilly Doll, developed by Asian American mother Eleanor Mak, now available at select Toys“R”Us stores and on the Macy's website online.

"Asian parents should strive to instill in their children the ability to be confident, to accept their appearance, family, and cultural traditions. Asian children should have toys that belong to them and that truly represent Asian features as companions," says Mak, a mother herself. Her company, named after her daughter, produces Asian American dolls, "Toys play a quite significant role in a child’s process of identity formation."

According to reports, out of the 5000 products targeted at Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders sold by Macy's, not one had true Asian features until now. The Jilly doll is the first of its kind. Macy's proudly claims that selling Asian dolls aligns with their ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in their product offerings.

Today, we solemnly remember the lives tragically taken three years ago in the Atlanta spa shootings, particularly noting the loss within the Asian American community. We will honor their memory and reinforce our commitment to dismantling the roots of hate that led to such a devastating event.

In this time of reflection, we recognize the unyielding resilience of all affected communities and acknowledge the significant strides made towards addressing anti-Asian violence and gender-based discrimination. The Biden-Harris administration's dedication to advancing equity, justice, and opportunity for AA and NHPI communities and their efforts to combat gun violence resonates with our mission at UCA.
