In 2014, the Council of the District of Columbia created the New Columbia Statehood Commission, an independent agency within DC government, to coordinate the District's statehood initiatives and support the Statehood Congressional Delegation.

As part of this celebration, the District is renewing its call for DC Statehood with a Student March for DC Statehood in the Emancipation Day parade on Sunday, April 14th.
Students from across the District of Columbia will be participating in this parade while calling for DC Statehood. The next generation deserves a DC that includes equal voting rights and representation for all.
Please see the flyer to learn more, or visit "Student March for DC Statehood in the Emancipation Day Parade" on Eventbrite and to register your child to participate in this vital event. We encourage all students to represent their school by wearing their school colors.
Thank you for joining the District in their efforts to ensure equal voting rights for all.
Since the DC Council and Mayor do not have full authority over DC's laws, Congress has made it near impossible to pass common sense gun laws and gun violence prevention measures, putting our citizens at risk and making us less safe.
In a 2016 referendum, 86% of DC voters voted in favor of making DC the 51st state. Congress should listen to the will of the people and grant DC .
DC is the only capital among the world's democracies without voting rights in the national legislature. Congress must lead by example and show that democracy applies everywhere, including right here in our nation's capital.
Congress has repeatedly sought to undercut DC's government, even going as far as introducing a bill to completely dismantle our local government. This undemocratic measure is a prime example as to why DC needs .
Republicans introduce bill that could abolish DC government The Home Rule Act was signed into law in 1973 by President Richard Nixon and went into effect in 1975.
If you're convicted of a felony in DC, you are sent directly to federal prison rather than state prison because there isn't one. DC is a federal district and not a state. DC residents are still American citizens and deserve the same rights as all other Americans in the 50 states.
The House of Representatives passed the Washington, DC Admission Act twice, and the White House has indicated its support for it. We will not rest until this bill is law and democracy and equal voting rights are finally restored in the nation's capital.
House Democrats pass D.C. statehood, launching bill into uncharted territory Statehood supporters will target the Senate, where opposition is strong but leaders have promised a hearing.
It's time for Congress to stop interfering in DC's affairs and start respecting our autonomy as a city. We deserve full voting representation in Congress and the right to make decisions without outside interference.
Join us in the fight for DC statehood and help us achieve the autonomy we deserve.
