Today, we also commemorate Ambassador Marion “Joe” Smoak, who witnessed the JFK and Jackie’s proposal in 1953. Until 2020, Billy spent birthdays at Martin’s Tavern alongside the Ambassador, recounting stories from days at the Tavern. “In hindsight it was great fun to witness a part of history,” said the Ambassador.

Coincidentally, it’s also Melanie Lynn’s birthday, Billy’s older sister. What a day for the Tavern and the family 🎉
