🚨🚨🚨BURN BAN 🚨🚨🚨
Please be advised that due to the extreme heat and lack of rain, a BURN BAN has been implemented in Canton Township UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Absolutely NO BURNING OF ANY KIND is permitted within our township at this time. Anyone found to be in violation of this ban will be subject to fines and/or penalties.
Please stay cautious and alert for spontaneous fires. Even a cigarette thrown from a car could ignite a dry patch of grass and become a full blown brush fire.
If you see fire contact 911 immediately with your location so responders can dispatch ASAP.
Help keep our firefighters safe and follow the burn ban! 🚒👨🏼🚒
🚨Canton Community🚨
We’d like to wish all our members and first responders a very Happy Independence Day!
As you celebrate our nation with your loved one’s today and over the weekend please remember to do so responsibly. We deeply value our community and want you to be as safe as possible while you enjoy this holiday.
* Please follow all local and state laws and ordinances regarding fireworks.
* If you are traveling, allow extra time to get where you’re going and stay alert for distracted or intoxicated drivers.
* If you are intoxicated DO NOT DRIVE. Call an Uber, Lyft, or taxi. This holiday is one of the highest for fatal car accidents and many can be avoided by staying OFF THE ROADS.
* Check on your veteran friends. Firework explosions can be difficult for our veterans and they may need some support.
* Keep alert for children playing or young adults walking who may be hard to see in poorly lit neighborhoods.
* Keep an eye out for animals who may have wondered due to fireworks and could run into streets while lost.
If you experience an emergency, call 911 so responders can be sent to you. If you have a vehicle related emergency, get as far off the road as possible while you wait for assistance.
First responders may be delayed due to high call volumes, please be patient and safe if you wait.
Stay safe out there, and as always, don’t forget to thank a first responder!
🚨🚨 Make sure your people in the red zone are safe!
A TORNADO WARNING has been issued for parts of Washington County.

What a DAY! Thank you to everyone who came out to the Canton Township Annual Community Day Picnic! We had a huge turnout even in the 90+ degree heat!
The baskets were amazing this year and someone even took home an ENTIRE patio set! Thank you to all our donors for making this year’s auction such a success!
Food was catered by Gabby Market and the ice cream coolers and slushees flowed! Thanks to the township crew who dished out the goods and they were delicious!!
Canton EMA, Canton Volunteer Fire Company, Taylorstown Volunteer Fire Company, and Ambulance and Chair were on scene to monitor the heat waves, let the kiddos touch-a-truck, and inform the community about our new smoke alarm and address safety kit programs! Thank you for keeping us safe and always learning!
We had magic, music, a dunk tank, sprinklers, a photo booth and so much more!! It was a wonderful turnout and we’re so happy to be able to talk to and connect with our community members every year. We are a small slice of this county, and events like this allow us to get your input, feedback and concerns outside of stiff conference rooms. These events are what make our little community strong, and we’re only getting better!
Stay tuned here for more township events and information. Stay safe and cool- and as always, don’t forget to thank a first responder!

Did you see Sunday’s paper?! We are proud to announce that we were one of the almost 50 local first responder agencies to receive grants from the Range Resources Good Neighbor Fund through the Washington County Community Foundation!
Through this grant and the assistance of Jim Crockett and Amanda Jobes at our local Busy Beaver, we have purchased several 911 Address Safety Kits. These are highly visible and reflective address kits that can be quickly and easily installed by first responders or residents.
The clear and easily visible identification of home addresses allows first responders to find and respond to emergencies quickly and efficiently. If your address is hard to find- so are you!
We will be handing out to and/or installing these kits for residents who request them and are currently without clear address signage, while prioritizing our most at-risk community members including those with disabilities, our veterans and those with special needs and considerations. Supplies are limited, but this is only the first step in this new program!
If you’re registered, come by our table at the Canton Community Picnic THIS Saturday from 11:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.! We’ll have more information about this program, the smoke alarm installation program through your Canton VFC and other useful information to help keep your household safe and prepared! We’ll see you there!
A huge Thank You to the Range Resources Corporation and Washington County Community Foundation for this opportunity! And thank you to our mutual aid partners who also received this grant to help keep their and our communities safer in the face of danger.
Stay safe out there and don’t forget to thank a first responder!

We had the pleasure of hosting a very special training over the weekend. Titled “Essentials in the Fire Chaplaincy”, this training provided fire service members and chaplains with the tools needed to address mental health concerns among citizens and their fellow first responders. First responders are at a high risk of occupational exposure to traumatic events and stress. The presence of Fire Chaplains allows first responders to seek assistance from individuals who share their same first responder experiences, improving perceived empathy and trust in mental health resources offered by their department. These individuals maintain the primary mission of offering non-denominational, non-sectarian spiritual aid, comfort, and help to citizens, first responders and their families.
This class was taught by instructors from the Federation of Fire Chaplains who traveled from Maryland and Texas! Students were from Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia. This was a wonderful class and we’re happy to have been a part of it.
Congratulations Fire Chaplains and thank you for your service!

We would like to take a moment to thank all of the first responders who sprang into action during Thursdays storm. Our entire area was hit hard and fast with over 2.5 inches of rain after an already wet week. This was so overwhelming for our area that DOZENS of people were evacuated, endangered in flood waters, and suffered serious property damages.
We had multiple agencies working together to provide the resources to get community members from the hazardous areas to safety. Utilizing water rescue equipment, multiple fire apparatus and equipment, public buses, ambulances, personal vehicles, road crew equipment and MULTIPLE personnel to get the job done. Agencies from our entire area pulled together to help with whatever they could as each tried to manage their own hazards and needs. It was an all hands on deck situation, and all hands showed up.
EMA Coordinator Joscsak immediately obtained busses from GG&C to shuttle citizens to the emergency shelter. This allowed for a faster evacuation and freed up responders for other emergency calls as flooding quickly turned bad situations worse.
The Canton Township Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s members not only responded to the constant calls, but also set up the emergency shelter at their station while backup was on the way. They sprang into action to handle busses of people and reached out to the community for resources. And the community answered. Within 2 HOURS they received enough volunteers and donations to house those displaced for the night. This pop-up shelter provided safety and comfort to the many people who are still navigating the effects of this storm, in their dire time of need. KUDOS to our fire crew!!
Finally, thank you to the volunteers that came out with donations, arranged for pickups, abandoned their homes to help with the shelter, assist their neighbors and stepped up in whatever way they could to help in a crisis. Including those who kept updating the public via social media with posts and pictures of areas responders were working to get to. There are less responders than there are community members, and when you report, repost, and reach out to help to alert others, it helps keep us ALL better informed and safer.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED!
It was a tremendous community response and we are very proud to be part of this Canton Community.

Thank you to everyone who braved the chill and came out for Saturday’s Easter activities! There were lots of eggs to be found, food to be had and pictures with Mr. Easter Bunny himself! Even the road crew hit the hay and paid Mr. Bunny a visit!
