We are hiring a TCO Shift Supervisor!

The purpose of this position is to direct, oversee and supervise the staff of the 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), ensuring that calls are taken properly and the dispatching of emergency responders is accomplished in a timely manner; to protect the safety and well-being of Washington County residents by ensuring the effective operation of the PSAP.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma and significant experience in emergency communications is required. Prior supervisory experience is preferred. Must have a working knowledge and understanding of 911 operations. Must have the following APCO (Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials) certifications: PST (Public Safety Telecommunicator), EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch), FSC (Fire Service Communications), and LEC (Law Enforcement Communications). CLEAN/NCIC and current CPR certifications are also necessary. Computer skills are necessary, as are good interpersonal skills. Must complete the Washington County Telecommunications Officer Training Program within one (1) year of employment.

September is National Preparedness Month

The Ready Campaign’s 2023 National Preparedness Month theme is “Take Control in 1, 2, 3”. The campaign will focus on preparing older adults for disasters, specifically older adults from communities that are disproportionally impacted by the all-hazard events, which continue to threaten the nation.

We know older adults can face greater risks when it comes to the multitude of extreme weather events and emergencies we now face, especially if they are living alone, are low-income, have a disability, or live in rural areas.

WCDPS is providing communications support for The Washington County Agricultural Fair, Inc. and the Allegheny Health Network - Prehospital Care Services EMS and various law enforcement agencies protecting the event. FirstNet has also deployed a Cell-on-Light-Truck (C**T) to enhance first responder cellular connectivity on site.

Severe Weather Outlook from US National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA for Thursday June 16th. Please monitor weather developments closely as confidence is increasing in a severe event with the primary threat coming from damaging wind gusts.

The NWS storm survey team has concluded that the damage sustained near Houston in Washington County, PA was the result of straight-line winds up to 70 mph, and not a tornado. A Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory have been issued for our area. We expect snow to arrive earlier than our last update; the first flakes will likely fall by this evening. Totals have been lowered over the area due to an eastward shift in the track of the low pressure center. There is still some uncertainty in snow totals due to the sensitivity of snowfall amounts to storm track.

Widespread accumulating snow is expected Friday night into Saturday as low pressure crosses the area. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the PA/WV ridges where confidence in at least 6 inches of snow (Winter Storm Warning criteria) is highest. Additional Watch/Warning/Advisory headlines will likely be needed elsewhere across the area, so stay tuned for those later today or tonight.

Bottom line: If you need to travel late Friday night or Saturday morning, have a plan for potential impacts from snow on the roads.

Another line of showers and thunderstorms will cross the area late this morning through the afternoon in advance of the cold front. Instability will be a bit lacking, so there's some uncertainty about whether we can get any stronger thunderstorms going during that time frame. However, there's plenty of wind shear to work with for any stronger storms that do develop. The main threat with any of those strong to severe storms will be damaging wind gusts. Expect to see a few severe thunderstorm warnings issued across the region this afternoon.

This afternoon, personnel from WCDPS assisted South Franklin VFD - Station 32 with a large field fire on Lagonda Road. The department provided a utility vehicle to access off-road areas involved in the fire.

West Penn Power continues work to restore power to the remaining 7,806 customers without service in Washington County.
