July 21st is Zero HIV Stigma Day!
HIV stigma affects everyone, regardless of HIV status. This stigma often stems from fear, lack of awareness, and outdated beliefs about HIV. Here’s how you can help stop the stigma:
1. Educate Yourself: Learn more about HIV. Resources like the CDC and DHS offer comprehensive information and resources on HIV.
2. Use Respectful Language: Learn how to talk about HIV appropriately. Some words can be hurtful to those living with HIV. Use person-first language to show respect.
3. Spread Awareness: Educate others about HIV and STIs. Engage in conversations and share what you’ve learned.
Together, we can end HIV stigma!
It's tempting to believe this issue is distant, but these poignant narratives reveal it's happening right here, in our neighborhoods. Huge gratitude to those who shared their stories, making these videos possible. Your courage will spark conversations and drive change.
Join us in watching the full-length documentaries (a few minutes each) on our website, and please, share them widely. Let's spread awareness and support those in need.

Exciting news! The Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. This grant will bolster the Healthy Aging Action Team's efforts, enabling the formation of a Social Connectedness Coalition to address social isolation. The grant will fund the creation of a comprehensive repository of social connection opportunities, managed in collaboration with Eras Senior Network, Inc.
The Healthy Aging Action Team from the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) is dedicated to promoting the well-being of older adults by preventing falls and enhancing social connections. Key goals include reducing emergency visits due to falls and decreasing feelings of loneliness and isolation among people 60+ in Waukesha County.

Yesterday marked a major milestone as we held our first in-person He**in Task Force meeting since 2019!
After two years of virtual meetings, gathering in the same room with more than 50 community partners was incredibly inspiring. Waukesha County is home to so many dedicated individuals working tirelessly to prevent overdose deaths and support those navigating their substance use journeys.
We had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Hillary Tamar, Medical Director at Community Medical Services (CMS), and Dr. Kirsten Fox, Family Medicine with Obstetrics at ProHealth Care's PROUD Clinic. Their presentations on Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) were packed with valuable insights.
Here are the key takeaways:
✔ MOUD is the gold standard for treating opioid use disorder.
✔ MOUD should be viewed like insulin for diabetes—both are essential treatments for chronic conditions.
✔ MOUD is safe for pregnant individuals and is linked to better birth outcomes.
✔ Stigma is a major barrier preventing people from using MOUD. We must support individuals in seeking MOUD treatment and offer unwavering support throughout their recovery journey.
It was an afternoon filled with learning, collaboration, and a renewed sense of purpose. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against opioid addiction.

An estimated 5 million, or 1 in 10, older Americans experience elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Working together across our networks, we can generate awareness and foster action to end elder abuse. Let’s work to keep everyone safe as we age.
June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Older people throughout the United States lose an estimated $2.6 billion or more annually due to elder financial abuse and exploitation. Elder abuse also creates health care and legal costs for our society. However, we can change this. Learn more: http://eldermistreatment.usc.edu/weaad-home
