At INTRUST, leadership is an activity, not a position.

We introduce this concept through LEAD INTRUST, an in-house learning session we offer and encourage our employees to take when they have time.

“It’s a space for employees to refine and evaluate ways to work through adaptive challenges they’re currently experiencing,” explains Danny B., learning and development coordinator.

An adaptive challenge is a problem, issue, or opportunity where you don’t have the information you need or a checklist you can follow to help you work it through. Using resources from the Kansas Leadership Center and the book ‘Your Leadership Edge,’ the learning session teaches the concept of adaptive leadership, equipping participants with the tools and framework to accurately diagnose and move through these situations.

“We guide them through ideas that can help them navigate adaptive challenges they face in their work,” Danny says. “We see that this helps our employees lean into adaptive challenges when needed, which ultimately leads to a higher level of leadership capacity across the bank.”

When it comes to paying bills, there’s a tried-and-true method of pulling out the checkbook, an envelope, and a stamp. While this approach works, there are more convenient ways to pay your bills.

Setting up automatic payments when possible, creating a budget, and monitoring your accounts regularly can help you stay organized and pay your bills efficiently.

Luke W. is a banker at our Overland Park, Kansas, banking center at 133rd Street and Antioch Road, and his path to a banking career might surprise you.

He was an actor and a waiter in L.A. for 17 years before he and his wife decided they needed a change from working 50-hour weeks to make ends meet. In early 2019, they searched online for the best places to live and work and agreed on Overland Park.

"I sold my car to afford to get us here, and we moved," he says. "I had my college degree, motivation, and lots of customer service experience — that's it. So, I started the job hunt."

Ultimately, his impressive customer service skills helped him land the job at INTRUST.

“The bulk of my job as a banker is customer service,” he says. “To me, there’s an artistic side to it. It’s learnable. It’s one job made of a thousand smaller jobs, and if you have the desire to learn and do those jobs well, then you got it down.”

Luke's been here five years, and we're so glad he chose to be part of our Kansas City team. If you have experience working in customer service, you already have the foundation you need to start your career in banking.

Did you know that length is more important than complexity when creating a secure password?

Choosing a string of random yet common words or a passphrase can be easier for you to remember and harder for a potential hacker to guess.

Here’s more on how to avoid easily guessable passwords: http://social.intrustbank.com/WupS50Sb6jH

Having a solid plan is crucial when starting a new business. It’s like a blueprint, guiding you through the process.
A good business plan can help you:

Define your vision – What's the purpose of your business? What are your main objectives? Defining your vision will serve as a roadmap to guide your decision-making process.

Identify opportunities and challenges – Assess the market, potential competition, and possible risks. Identifying opportunities for growth and developing strategies to overcome challenges puts your business in a good position.

Secure funding – Banks and investors like to see a detailed business plan before providing financial assistance. Presenting a well-thought-out plan can increase your chances of securing funding.

PROTECT YOUR CHECKS: Despite a significant decline in consumers’ use of checks, the U.S. Treasury Department reports check fraud has increased nationwide by 385%.

Fraudsters are targeting paper checks sent through the mail. Once they have the check, they use chemicals to “wash” it, allowing them to change the amount or make themselves the payee. They then deposit or cash the check and steal money. Here are a few ways to protect your checks.

If you believe you are a victim of check fraud, contact us immediately at 800-895-2265.

For more than 50 years, our downtown Wichita office has had a front-row seat to the evolution of Wichita Riverfest.

The Sundown Parade, the fireworks, the banners that hang along Century II commemorating the festival’s history — the very best parts of the festival that make it something we look forward to every year.

We’re proud to support Riverfest alongside local businesses and community members, and together, our collective contributions help the celebration grow bigger and better each year.

means we look for candidates who naturally display character and commitment because we believe a focus on values contributes to a healthy and positive work culture.

A few years ago, we asked INTRUST employees if they’d help us bring this concept to life. These fun, blue-background photos we've been sharing are the results. These employees still work here today, along with many more across Kansas, Northwest Arkansas, and Oklahoma, and we’re incredibly grateful they do.

As a teen who is starting your first job you might wonder, “Do I need a checking account?” A checking account can make managing your money safer and easier. It can be a less expensive way to access the money from your paycheck, and it can help you begin to establish your financial history. We talk about why in an article linked in the comments.

If you open an account at a community bank that has physical locations near you, you have the added benefit of being able to choose to speak to someone in person if you need to.

Paying down credit card debt can be challenging, and it can take much longer than you want it to. But making a plan and sticking to it each month can help. Equally important is knowing what to avoid:

Try to avoid spending all your tax refund on debt. Don’t have more than a few credit cards. And try not to carry a credit card balance. We explain why in an article linked in the comments section.

AVOID THE SCAM: A tech support scammer may try to trick you with a pop-up window that appears on your computer screen.

It might look like an error message from your operating system or antivirus software, and it might use logos from trusted companies or websites. The message in the window warns you about a security issue on your computer and tells you to call a phone number to get help.

If you get this kind of pop-up window on your computer, don’t call the number. Real security warnings and messages will never ask you to call a phone number.

“It’s an environment that allows employees to focus less on standardized learning and more on building trust and relationships.”

That’s Jen M., employee relations supervisor, speaking about a development opportunity she created and co-facilitates called Manager Round Tables — monthly learning sessions for INTRUST managers and assistant managers that are informal, voluntary, and virtual. That last part is important, she says.

“When you’re physically in a room with people, there’s pressure,” Jen explains. “A virtual space can sometimes feel safer for participants, particularly newer managers, especially when we’re talking through managerial scenarios.”

The format is popular with attendees because it’s conversational and relevant, using role play and scenario work to guide managers through conflict resolution centered on respect and compassion. It's also short in length, banking center managers don’t need to leave their banking centers, and it helps bring together supervisors and managers from across our markets.

“It’s not lost on us as an HR department that we have working managers,” says Jen. “They run teller lines, write loans, visit with customers — they’re busy. When we want to engage them in learning, it matters we meet them where they are for whatever amount of time they can spare.”

When it comes to paying bills, there’s the tried-and-true method of pulling out the checkbook, an envelope, and a stamp. While this approach works, there are more convenient ways to pay your bills — including the method we recommend: using bill pay through online and mobile banking.

It’s a central way to pay your bills. There’s no need to buy stamps and envelopes. And it provides you with a record of all the bills you’ve paid so you can see the companies you pay and the total amount you pay each month for all your bills combined.
