Well Done Wednesday Vol: 36
Hiring a diverse group of police officers is key to our success and meeting the needs of our community. Officer Silva is a shining example of the need for officers who can communicate in different languages. Additionally, Officer Silva demonstrated in this challenging situation the investment WPD has made in arming our officers with the information they need to de-escalate situations when they can.
Well done, Officer Silva.
City of Wichita- Government
Scammers are pushy and very creative. They can even make it look like they are calling from the Wichita Police Department’s phone number.
The Wichita Police Department has received reports indicating that citizens are being contacted by scammers who falsely represent themselves as law enforcement officers. These scammers claim the victim has a warrant for missing court and request payment in lieu of arrest. They may also attempt to obtain personal information, such as a social security number, by suggesting the recipient's social security number has been compromised. The scammers might even call from a local number and provide a fake "case number."
However, it is all a FRAUD!!! IT’S A SCAM!!!
The Wichita Police Department is not making these phone calls. WPD will never ask for your social security number or demand payment via gift cards, crypto or any other means in lieu of arrest.
We encourage the public to remain vigilant and not to provide personal information during calls from anyone claiming to be from the Wichita Police Department and requesting such details.
If you receive one of these calls, please report it to the Federal Trade Commission online or by calling 877-FTC-HELP (877-382-4357).

Happy Child Passenger Safety Week! 🚗👶
This week is all about keeping our little ones safe on the road! Whether you're a seasoned parent or welcoming your first bundle of joy, ensuring your child is safe while traveling is essential. Here are some important tips and suggestions for child passenger safety, especially for new parents:
1. Choose the Right Car Seat
Infant Seats: Babies should ride in a rear-facing car seat from birth until at least age 2 or until they reach the maximum height and weight limit specified by the car seat manufacturer.
Convertible Car Seats: Switch to a rear-facing convertible car seat after outgrowing the infant seat. Keep them rear-facing as long as possible—it’s the safest position.
Booster Seats: Once your child outgrows their forward-facing car seat with a harness, use a booster seat until the seat belt fits properly, typically when they’re 4 feet 9 inches tall.
2. Proper Installation
Follow Manufacturer Guidelines: Carefully read your car seat and vehicle manuals to ensure proper installation.
Tight Fit: Make sure the car seat doesn’t move more than an inch in any direction when installed. A snug fit is key to protection.
Use the Right Angle: Use rear-facing car seats to support your baby’s head and neck at the correct angle.
3. Harness Safety
Snug Straps: The harness should be snug enough that you can’t pinch any slack between your fingers at your child’s shoulders.
Chest Clip Position: The chest clip should always be at armpit level to keep the straps in place.
4. Be Aware of Expiration Dates
Car Seats Expire: Car seats typically expire after six years. Always check the expiration date and never use a seat that’s been in an accident.
5. Register Your Car Seat
Stay Updated on Recalls: Register your car seat with the manufacturer to receive notifications in case of recalls.
6. Get Help If Needed
Car Seat Checks: Many local fire stations, police departments, and hospitals offer free car seat safety checks.
7. Model Safe Behavior
Buckle Up: Always wear your seatbelt and ensure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained. Kids learn from watching adults!
By following these safety tips, you can ensure your child stays as safe as possible every time they hit the road with you. Happy Child Passenger Safety Week—let’s make every car ride a safe one! 🚗💖
