Wesley Woodlawn Hospital & ER held an open house this week to celebrate its brand-new operating room, a beautiful suite boasting the latest technology in lights, monitors and maneuverability. The new OR helps Wesley Woodlawn meet growing demand for surgical services there to better serve the Wichita community!

Members of the US Navy that are a part of the crew of the USS Wichita visited Wesley Children’s Hospital this month as part of their trip to Wichita to visit the city namesake of their ship! "My team and I had an amazing time speaking with some of the children and their families. Thank you for allowing us to spread cheer and joy. Hopefully we were able to provide some comfort to some of the young children and their families," Cmdr. Brett Ringo said. "As commanding officer of the USS Wichita, I am humbled to witness the courage and resilience of the children at Wesley Children's Hospital. Our sailors are honored to spend time with these incredible young heroes."

National Thank a Resident Day is today. Residency is an integral period in medical training. We know our residents work tremendously hard and are a vital part of our healthcare team. They are crucial resources for medical students and fellow residents. This day, and every day, we thank our all of our residents for their commitment to and passion for safe, high-quality patient care. Thank you for all you do.

Wesley Healthcare was proud to sponsor the American Heart Association’s 2024 Wichita Heart Ball Saturday evening at the Wichita Hyatt. The ball attracted 536 people and raised $377,500 — both new records for Wichita! Wesley also sponsored the Bring a Ball to the Ball promotion, which collected over 65 athletic balls for donation to a local school or community in need. Many thanks to our own Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lowell Ebersole for co-chairing and helping to make the Wichita Heart Ball a fun and successful event.

Valentine's Day is special at Wesley Healthcare. On Ortho-Spine's 4 Tower, a group of caregivers toured 34 rooms to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to patients, bringing lots of laughter in the process. ‌‌Meanwhile, at Wesley Children's Hospital, volunteers from throughout the system took time to round on the kiddos in Pediatrics-5 Tower, PICU, Dialysis and Peds Sedation/Infusion, delivering Valentine's goodies — games, coloring books, stickers, balls, crafts, that sort of thing — to the children, many of whom had pre-made Valentine's boxes for anticipated special deliveries. Other colleagues put together Valentine treat bags that were distributed by staff to children in the Pediatric Emergency Department and ASU Recovery.

Our youngest patients got a surprise visit from the Wichita Thunder this month! Many thanks to Jason Pineo, Kelly Bent, Peter Bates, Ryan Finnegan and Trevor Gorsuch for bringing smiles to our pediatric patients at Wesley Children's Hospital.

The Wesley Trauma Department taught over 1,000 people how to "Stop the Bleed" in 2023 — totaling more than 5,000 individuals since 2017! Stop the Bleed classes teach participants how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control it once you learn three quick techniques. Anyone can take the STOP THE BLEED® training course and become empowered to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency happens. What a privilege to cut the ribbon this week at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Wesley Healthcare's new dedicated, state-of-the-art oncology unit at Wesley Medical Center. The new 33-bed unit is designed to provide specialized care to cancer patients and their families and offers a variety of amenities to make both more comfortable as patients receive care.
