8.3 BILLION Metric Tons (9.1 BILLION US Tons) of plastic has been produced since plastic was introduced in the 1950s.
79% of plastic that has ever been made still sits in landfills or the natural environment (with the exception of the small amount that has been incinerated or recycled)
Americans purchase about 50 billion water bottles per year, averaging about 13 bottles per month for every person in the U.S.! That means by using a reusable water bottle, you could save an average of 156 plastic bottles annually.

Lights on the River Wichita Lights on the River holiday light launch is a free family-friendly event on December 3, 2023.

For all those attending Lights on the River tomorrow:

The parking lot across from the boathouse will be closed for the food trucks.

The best way to access the parking garage, is South of the Wichita/Dewey intersection.

Parking is also availabe at the Stadium.

The parking lot north of Waterman & Main , east of the Hyatt, is being resurfaced, so it may not be available.

Hopefully this helps everyone as they come down!

See the details about Sunday's Lights on the River Event!
So excited to see you on Sunday!
1. Most of the activites will be located outside around the Wichita Boathouse which is located at 515 S Wichita. Horse drawn wagon rides, will be directly in front of the building,and food trucks will be in the parking lot across the street from the Boathouse.
2. Behind the Boathouse, on the River bank, a DJ will be playing Christmas music, there will be S'mores for roasting, and the launch of the floating lights will take place at 6:30 pm followed by fire projection and LED light show.
3. We plan to retrieve all lights near the bridge at Kellogg, and you are welcome to collect one of the launched lights there at 7 PM, immediately after the fire projection show.

4. Lights will be available for purchase at our sales booth which will be on the front porch of the boathouse from 4 PM to 7 PM. Santa will be inside taking Christmas wishes from children of all ages . Thanks to our generous sponsors,all events are free except for the food at the food trucks, and purchasing the lights. Light purchases goes towards funding water quality education events on the River.

5. Parking is available at the Riverfront Stadium with a short walk across the bridge ( on the south side - North side sidewalk will be closed for fire projection set-up), and in the Kellogg St Parking Garage. The best way to access the parking garage is from the south on Wichita St. just south of Dewey & Wichita St. We will have Wichita St from Waterman to Dewey, Waterwalk Street ,and Dewey Street,right in front of the parking garage closed to allow for our horsedrawn wagon rides.
