Here's another Smithfield project. 😍 They turned pizza boxes into laptops. The consumers filled in a blank QWERTY keyboard to work on letter identification. The challenge was doing it out of order from the alphabet song. They did well. For the screen, each consumer picked five icons. They had lots of fun with this project.

Our Smithfield day program participated in an activity called Two Big Birds. They took two pieces of yellow paper and made a simple origami fold and added an elastic band to create a mask. Once everyone had a bird beak, they pulled bird jokes and riddles from a cup and asked each other for the answers. Why did the chicken cross the road???πŸ˜πŸ“πŸ”

Yesterday was Science Day in the Rocky Mount office. Each consumer had the chance to experiment with 3 different activities - volcano eruption, mixing color master, and foamy fountain. Before the experiments began, they had to first write down their expectations for the results of the experiments. Next, they followed each step in the experiment, and then they wrote down what actually happened. The consumers really enjoyed using their math skills, science skills, and team work to make this a successful day!!!

Our Smithfield day program participated in a clock making activity. They wrapped the clocks in yellow duct tape and used printed numbers. This activity builds number recognition and time-telling skills. The group also discussed the sun - its purpose - giving us light and warmth and using it to measure the time of day. Good job!

Last Monday, our Smithfield day program practiced their marketing skills with imaginary fast food franchises. They made up the name of their businesses and an ad for their new value meal.

Consumers chose the price and the day program manager went to each burger joint to order. He gave them the incorrect amount of money to see if they could correctly identify the amounts given and the correct amount needed to purchase a value meal.

How do you like the meals and restaurant names the consumer chose? Creative! 😍

She sells seashells by the seashore. Can you say it three times without a mistake? 😍 Our Smithfield consumers played a game with tongue twisters. They listened to tongue twisters and repeated them three times. They also created artwork with the tongue twisters. What a fun way to bring clarity to one's speech and to work on oral motor skills. Strengthening oral motor skills has many benefits including reducing the chances of choking while eating.

Our Rocky Mount day program had a relaxing week last week. They started out the week with sharing a cold pop treat with their adopted grandparents at The Gardens of Nashville assisted living home. Other activities included putting their creative juices to work using random supplies from the center's art closet to build a fairy dream land. They topped off the week by joining their adopted grandparents for lunch at Parkers in Wilson NC. 😍

The other photos are of some of our CAB (Consumer Advisory Board) members and staff, Goldsboro Program Director, Jacksonville Day Program Manager, and our CAB advisor.😍

More experiments and other food-related activities from our Smithfield crew. 😍 They performed a sugar density experiment to demonstrate that the more sugar you dissolve in a liquid the heavier it is. They used colored water to show the change in density more clearly. They performed the experiment twice -once with regular granulated sugar and again with Equal.

BRAIN FOOD: Consumers paired up in teams of two and made an informational poster about a food that is good for brain health. They served the food they reported on giving out samples to all.

😊Our Rocky Mount office put on an Independence Day Kickback on 7/3. The morning started off very relaxed with music, craft stations (no sew pillows, necklace making, and pom-pom ornaments), and a hydration station. They topped off the afternoon with a grilled hotdog lunch and water wars and ice pops. 😊
