The Dwelling
The Dwelling is a mission congregation which intentionally builds community with the housing insecure
Excited to officially launch our 2024 Giving Tuesday Campaign. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share stories that highlight how The Dwelling is not just a church but a place of innovation, where we find new ways to serve together that go beyond Winston-Salem; a place of community, where all feel safe and valued; and a place of transformation, where lives are changed every day.
“And as Lazarus emerges, still wrapped in his grave clothes, Jesus instructs those around him to “unbind him, and let him go.”
This isn’t only a command to free Lazarus physically, but a call to let go of the bindings of grief and hopelessness that often cling to us.
Jesus doesn’t leave Lazarus or his community entangled in the remnants of death;
he sets them free to embrace life once again.
Jesus’ ministry is one long proclamation that God is about life, not death;
about love, not fear;
about connection, not exclusion.
But sometimes the only way to walk into life is to fight through death.
Fear of failure must die – To take bold steps forward.
Grudges and resentment must die – To find peace and forgiveness.
Unrealistic expectations must die– To embrace reality and thrive in it.
Self-doubt must die– To discover self-worth and confidence.
Toxic relationships must die– To cultivate healthier connections.
Control must die– To allow trust and surrender.
Pride must die– To let humility and openness take root.
Perfectionism must die– To accept growth over flawlessness.
Comparisons must die– To embrace uniqueness.
Blame must die– To take responsibility and find empowerment.
The past must die– To fully live for what God has for us NOW.”

The Dwelling
See you tomorrow!
But not too early.
Today was an absolutely incredible Reformation Sunday at The Dwelling! We celebrated our heritage as people of Reform with joy and gratitude, welcoming three new members into God’s family through baptism and celebrating another’s affirmation of baptism. Our kids had a great time with face painting and trunk or treat with Augsburg. To make it even more special, we had the honor of hearing the Word proclaimed by Presiding Bishop Eaton herself! It was truly a day filled with faith, love, and community— a powerful reminder that we are church together and church for the sake of the world.
TOMORROW IS OPENING NIGHT! We hope to see you there! Authoring Action
SAVE THE DATE! We are excited to be partnering with Authoring Action for another amazing Voices experience! We hope to see you there!

Come and Dwell
In a world that constantly tells people who are homeless that they don't belong, The Dwelling is a church that tells them that the world has it all wrong.
The Dwelling proclaims boldly that there is holiness in the identity as someone experiencing homelessness, that they share a kinship with God who reminds us all that we are all wanderers in search of belonging.
Belonging that can only be found in the waters of baptism and at the table - where outsiders are no more.
The Dwelling reflects the radical counter-cultural nature of the cross - where shame is glory and identity in Christ replaces the damaging narrative that the world so easily affixes to people in the margins.
