Mixxer in Winston-Salem is teaching women hands-on skills 04/04/2024

The Women's Fund has proudly supported Mixxer to hire and train female instructors, to obtain gender-appropriate tools and safety equipment, and to establish a women's only welding scholarship. 💜✨

"By having this fund, we can do upgrades in our equipment and in our shops that make it easier and safer for women and girls to learn how to use tools and equipment that they don't traditionally get to use in our community," says Elaine Lamson, Executive Director of Mixxer.

Véronique George is a marketing wunderkind with a decade-long record of conceiving, crafting and executing award-winning campaigns. She was honored with two coveted Silver ADDY awards by the American Advertising Federation in recognition of outstanding creative excellence.

She has a particular passion for sharing her time, talent and unique perspective through service. To that end, she is also a current board member of MUSE Winston-Salem and the Creative Center of North Carolina as well as a former board member of the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and Council on Culture & Arts.

"Joining a group of people who are deeply invested in Forsyth County women and girls has been incredibly energizing. I'm looking forward to working with and getting to know more Women's Fund members in the years to come," she says.

Learn more about her:
Kristin Giordano currently works as an evaluator of public health programs at the Emory Centers for Public Health Training and Technical Assistance. In this and previous roles working with philanthropic, nonprofit, and health system partners, she uses evaluation as a tool to advance equity and community health.

After moving to Forsyth County in 2022, Kristin joined the Women's Fund to get involved with and support her new community. She serves on and co-chairs the research education and advocacy committee and is excited to join the Women's Fund Board this year.

Allison is the Director of Advancement at Children's Cancer Partners of the Carolinas. She has served in a variety of fundraising leadership positions at academic medical institutions, community hospitals and national nonprofit organizations.

Allison and her family moved to Forsyth County so that she could lead the philanthropy program for the National Cancer Institute-recognized Comprehensive Cancer Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. New to town and eager to learn more about impacting her community, Allison joined the Women's Fund 8 years ago. She has served on the grants committee and the membership committee.
