The Winston-Salem Police Department and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Utilities are working collaboratively to address recent thefts of cast-iron lids on water meter boxes in the areas surrounding Marble and Bretton Streets.

A new 70-kilowatt system of solar panels is being installed on the roof of the Bryce A. Stuart Municipal Building. This new system will help the city meet its 100% clean and renewable energy goal by 2050.
The project is expected to be completed in January 2024.

At approximately 12:26pm, Officers responded to the 1600 Block of Patterson Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers discovered the suspect barricaded himself into a residence. Our Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team was called to the scene. Officers made contact with the suspect by phone and he voluntarily surrendered. Charges are forthcoming. The road is back open.

The Winston-Salem Police Department is actively investigating an incident on Patterson Avenue in between 14th Street and Glenn Avenue. There is currently a heavy police presence in the area. Seek alternative routes if possible. Further confirmed information will be released as appropriate.
