It’s the final weekend of my Level 2 IFS training — with a focus on therapeutic relationships and spirituality — so you know I’m excited about that! ✨💖✨

I decided to work at my home, in my art studio, which is letting me do another thing I love, make stuff. 😃

I have a whole bunch of partly finished pieces, so I’m just noodling on them now, letting myself play for the fun of it.

You know, we are all born with intuition, and with our own sense of what feels like fun, what brings us joy.

One of my greatest joys in life is being with nature. I grew up on a lake. I love the wildlife that gathers round lakes. That’s probably why you see so much from me in my stories about Florida lake birds 🤩

My husband loves lakes and the wildlife too. He’s befriended a beautiful great blue heron and it’s amazing how comfortable that bird is around us now. This poem is about that:

How to befriend a heron

It helps if you live on a lake, number one. It’s also imperative to have a fishing pole. Nothing fancy needed, a cane pole with a line and a small hook is all you need. Patience is also essential, because, fishing. The resident heron, a great blue lanky fellow, will take interest in your catch, especially if the release is tossed on shore. A cycle of catch and release to the heron trains it in no time to associate you with Friend #1. Name the heron Harry, talk to him nicely and soon he’ll be waiting at the patio door daily, hoping you’ll come out to play. When he begins looking in the kitchen window and going to the front yard to find you, you’ll know his love is sure. Or maybe he’s hoping you’ll feed him. Again.

As part of National Poetry Month I’ve been enjoying being part of an online group, using prompts from our poetry teacher .ellen 🤓 The poem shared here was inspired from a “list” poem style. Hope you liked it! It was fun to write.

I love seeing an old poem & post and recognizing parts work even before I was trained in IFS 😊

Letting myself take a break to connect with nature & poetry is a welcome respite from doing accounting and getting things ready for taxes!

Part of me really hates accounting and tax time because it has always triggered a 13-year-old in me that was terrible at math and felt isolated trying to do homework she didn’t understand.

Yesterday I did my own therapy with this part, really helping her not feel so alone & unburdening her old beliefs🫂 Now today as I tackle the accounting, I’m ornery, but I’m not dissolving into tears! I’m getting through it much better, so I’m calling it a win!

Writing poetry has given my creativity part a place of warm welcome, and I’m grateful for prompts from .ellen ‘s April poetry class. Please check out her page and consider taking classes with her, she is an incredible teacher/guide & one of my dear poetry friends.

Conversational poem :

6:45 am

It’s the same as yesterday and the day before. The resident cardinal (we call him Carl) issues the first good morning, as soon as he sees the sky has changed from dark to barest light. Shades of blue I want to name, or can I just sit and worship, give thanks, like the cardinal for another day? No labels needed. Just pure thanks. May it be so! Thank you thank you thank you.

As I ponder the sky’s changing color show, I am not kidding when I report a bunch of crows came, crying their caw caw caw and landed in the far backyard oak tree. Their chorus, so loud and unusual, I had to wonder, what’s the racket all about? It’s been more than 15 minutes now, and it finally dawned on me, maybe they just wanna talk about the sky too? See, it’s already light now. Pink too. Thank you thank you thank you.
