Peers Health Care Center

Today was Madiba Day and Fine and Country Estate Agents came and treated the staff to a lovely tea and some goody packs. Thank you Marnie and Liezl.

At last our new garden is complete and we can show it off to you. It took a month and it is looking fabulous. The rain has arrived in time to settle everything in place and the new lawn is already showing signs of settling in. We have 2 new trees and the rooms facing the garden each have a little recess. These recesses are each divided by a box garden and will soon have a little bench and table in each one. We had fun watching, and filming the new trees being carried in - and they are BIG! The residents have been very complimentary and looking forward to an established lawn. We also have a "grass" bench in front of the main flower garden! Sr Cathy now has a lovely rose garden outside her clinic.

It's been some time since I have posted anything! Watch this space - something is happening and you will soon find out what it is! In the meantime, We were so sad when our lovely Pet Therapy dog, Huxley had to retire. He was 14 and his arthritis was really worrying him. His replacement has now been announced and she is a gorgeous black labrador called Skye. We look forward to seeing a lot more of her.

At last we have our security gates removed. It made Healthcare look like a jail. Now we have a new gate and new access code front door. What a difference!

What a lovely day we had when the pupils of Fish Hoek Pre-Primary school came to entertain the residents. Each resident received a card with an Easter egg, and they were entertained with song and dancing. This was followed by the children having an Easter egg hunt in our garden. Great fun was had by all.

We had another birthday this weekend - Mrs Anne Helfrich celebrated her 84th birthday! Shakita from the kitchen made a beautiful orange birthday cake, and I was assured that it was scrumptious. The kitchen staff, Shakita and Maurita, are very good at making birthday cakes now and take pride in doing them. Well done. The careers, as always gave a lovely rendering of Happy Birthday.

Today we had our first Carol concert, with Village residents coming to join. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and it will definitely become an annual event. We wish you all a wonderful Festive Season and everything you wish for 2024.

It's been a busy week in Healthcare, with the Christmas spirit in full swing. Christmas dinner was served early as the Kitchen staff will be off over Christmas - leaving a skeleton staff to serve Healthcare. Lunch was a delicious spit roasted lamb and all the trimmings!

Black Friday was a blessing in disguise. We managed to replace our old lazy boy chairs for lovely new ones. Our residents deserve them and they will be so comfortable in them.

When a family says this about our Healthcare, what else is there to say!

A very big "Thank you" to our amazing Peers Healthcare Staff.
To our family you are known as the "House of Smiles". From the the dear old lady resident, who welcomes every visitor at the entrance, to each and every staff member. Even the delicious special menus that our Master Chef and his staff produce, make everyone smile at their plates!
When one is full of stress, or anxiety about the health of loved ones, who need special care, we enter the gate and a feeling of peace and calm is all around us. We know with certainty that every staff member is totally dedicated to their vocation, and we are the beneficiaries. Just wandering along the corridors, seeing the lovely rooms, with personal touches, the bathrooms carefully equipped, and a friendly dining room and lounge with a view, makes one feel that we will always be looked after when ageing sends it's problems.
Situated close to the office and car park is so convenient for for all visitors too!!
Then there is the role of management behind the scenes, who also ensure that the House of Smiles is kept in pristine condition.

The Generations School invited all the Healthcare centers in the Valley to a tea and concert, and a wonderful time was had by all. We were treated to a lovely tea and each person received a Christmas card made by a pupil; a homemade bookmark and a paper flower. Tea was served by attentive pupils and we had lovely quiches, scones, sandwiches and biscuits. The entertainment consisted of songs by the little ones and the choir; demonstrations of tumbling; dances; poetry; and piano recitals. Thank you, Generations , for making this a special outing for our Healthcare residents

This week we celebrated 3 years of hard work, and a huge amount of money, the completion of the renovations. We welcomed over 70 Villagers and a couple of staff, who were here right at the beginning of Peers Village Healthcare. All guests were welcomed with a welcome pack; had a tour through the beautiful Unit and then had a cup of tea or coffee and some really decadent goodies made by our chef Dylan. The flowers were lovely - thank you to the flower ladies. A huge thank you to our manager, Jason, and Matron Caroline and her staff who worked so well and coped with a constant stream of visitors with smiles.

We will soon be starting on revamping the garden in the courtyard, but a recent storm gave us a kick start! The very old rhuus tree was designated to be replaced by a new evergreen one, was snapped off in the wind. Watch this space for our new garden.
