Food Supply Network is the leading marketplace in foodservices in which brands, distributors and buyers can all interact.
Food Supply Network has created a marketplace in which restaurants conveniently have access to suppliers in the industry. It is now a go-to place for the hospitality industry when sourcing products.
South African organisations are also addressing the food supply chain challenges and fair distribution.
“With the information age and as information becomes more available to everybody, this (food security challenge) will be solved,” he says. “We have the ability to predict some of the issues, but we don’t have all the data points yet. As we are able to collect more and more data points, we’re going to get better at predicting where we should move food.”
To get all the data points for this exercise, he believes, will require companies working together. “I think that’s part of the challenge. If you and I are competitors in a certain product, for both of us to open up or make our supply chain transparent, there’s a bit of a mental shift that needs to occur for companies to make their data available to everybody. If we can change the mindset of the industry so that this becomes the norm, I think then we’ve won or are close to winning.” Brainstorm Magazine

For companies like FSN, the key is in capitalising on the power of data and technology. The business is founded on the premise of providing an independent digital marketplace that simplifies the supply chain for the food services industry.
According to Steyn, FSN integrates with the ERP systems of businesses so that it can share stock levels. These, he says, are obviously structured and within certain rule sets, but the company makes it transparent so that food services can see what is happening in the supply chain. Brainstorm Magazine

Kerston Foods founder and CEO Richard Kershaw shared some insights into his experience joining the business-to-business tech platform Food Supply Network.
"It's easy to sit here now and say that we knew straight away that this platform was going to work,” said Kershaw. “But the more I saw, the more I began to believe that this kind of solution could be valuable not only to us but to the entire food supply chain."

"You don’t just wake up one morning and decide you’re obsessed with your customers, especially with companies like ours that are growing fast. It’s hard to keep it top of mind unless it’s one of your values. Over the last year customer obsession has served us incredibly well, as it has done for other companies in the supply chain.”
“Of course we focus on our own business, but ultimately we’d be nothing without the manufacturers who supply and the customers who buy. We need the entire chain to be operating well in order for the industry to move forward, and that’s why I fully believe what I’m about to say.” Gert Steyn, CEO Food Supply Network

"Efficiency is key and margins are tight, so any help we can get in keeping our machine well-oiled is welcome. Ultimately it makes our customers happier, which is what it all comes down to.”
Businesses that are cutting their costs and upping their efficiency are the ones that are surviving. But the businesses that are thriving are the ones that have ingrained customer obsession into their culture.”

The basic premise is that if one can better collaborate within the supply chain through the integration of a myriad of software systems into one platform, then this collaboration will lead to efficiency, improved productivity and savings. Efficiency, productivity and savings which can be redeployed within the business and can now reach the end consumer.

How does it work?
Food Supply Network ingrates the major software systems used by manufacturers, distributors, logistics companies and retailers – point-of-sale, accounting, inventory systems, etc. into one platform. Other than the obvious benefits of having these systems integrated on a single platform, there are a few more up-sides:
● Live and accurate view of the supply chain
● Improved visibility of stock in the chain
● Massively reduced complexity and red tape
● Closer collaboration for all parties in the supply chain
● Efficient delivery in all transactions
● Integration of the major commercial software solutions
● Freeing up time to invest in what matters
● Food manufacturers and suppliers are exposed to more buyers

Fabian Whate, Head of Naspers Foundry, said, "The Food Supply Network, a B2B marketplace digitalises and integrates the food ordering systems of food manufacturers, distributors and restaurants. It met our requirements, had a product, strong traction with customers, the customers are paying for the product, and it had demonstrated sustainable unit economics." https://www.news24.com/news24/partnercontent/naspers/building-the-food-supply-chains-of-the-future-20210506
