Text neck and computer back are very real in this digital age. A large number of our patients fall into this category and are so glad they set foot into our rooms to take positive steps to alleviating their pain which often starts as a background ni**le or discomfort.
We love this field of work as there is so much we can do to avoid the associated muscle and joint issues like headaches, neck ache, tense shoulders, back ache and degeneration.
We often start with hands-on treatment but will also give you tools & quick exercises to reverse the negative effects of prolonged sitting & computer work.
This is an interesting associated read.

Physiotherapy Cape Town - Julia Gane & Shauna Tweedie | 021 418 2808
All the best to our Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon runners!
The most common injuries we see after this race are lateral or outer foot, knee and hip injuries: ITB at the hip & knee and peroneal tendonitis along the outer foot and calf.
Our top tip for the race:
Run on the flat or middle section of the road. Southern Cross Drive & Rhodes Drive in particular have a very steep camber or angle. This causes the muscles on one leg to work in a shortened position while the other leg muscles work in a lengthened position thus causing muscle imbalances and overuse injuries.
Prevention is better than cure. But if you do find yourself with a foot, knee or hip sports injury after the race we can certainly get you back on track in a couple of sessions.
Whether it is hands-on treatment you need: soft tissue mobilization, dry needling, massage, joint mobilization or strapping. Or rehabilitation for a chronic injury. We are at the ready to help fix you!

Do you have pain?
As physiotherapists we treat pain daily. Understanding the true cause and a clear diagnosis of the problem helps us to get quick results and a fast recovery.
Pain is real and it is often linked to a specific injury. But pain can also be present with a healed injury… its almost like your body short circuits the initial cause and continues to feel pain even when the initial injury has healed - this is what we call chronic pain and 'central sensitization'.
We at Cape Town Physiotherapy have been fortunate enough to be exposed to cutting edge pain research and treatment techniques having studied under Dr Romy Parker, Director of the Pain Management Unit at UCT.
If you are in pain, or if you know someone who is in pain, please feel to touch base with us for help. We would be happy to discuss your pain over the phone to find the best fit and next steps most suitable for you: 084 515 0303
Good Luck to all our 'Cape Town Cycle Tour' participants.
We hope that your ride goes off without a hitch this year.
To ensure you reduce the risk of muscle injury:
• Make sure you warm-up and stretch before your ride. Whether that means you take a slow ride to the start or do a few dynamic stretches before you get on the saddle.
• If you are struggling with a spasm or cramp, take a beat and stretch it out or look out for the UCT Physio students along the route for a quick massage. You will find them at Refreshment stations: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, finish.
Post ride, make sure you stretch it out before you head straight to the beer tent. Don't forget your neck and shoulders! They may not have been doing most of the work but they have been in one position for the majority of your ride.
You may experience DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) for up to 72 hours post ride, this is normal, especially if you haven't been training very hard. However you can ease this by stretching, foam rolling and best of all, visiting us for a Sport's massage in our lovely new premises.
Good Luck and Enjoy!
Dear valued patients, please note that we have moved to an exciting new premises close to the Silo district. It’s a beautiful ground floor space with easy, accessible and free parking.

A touching testimonial which reminds us why we do what we do. Well done Shauna Tweedie!
'Having broken my wrist skiing and a titanium plate securing the fracture with 12 screws I embarked on a mission of rehabilitation in February 2017 with Shauna Tweedie of Green Point Physio. My chiropractor, a well know sports doctor in Cape Town said I should not expect 100% functionality of my wrist. My Orthopedic surgeon was more optimistic especially with the nerve my damage to my index finger. Shauna, treated me diligently and patiently and reassuringly twice a week for the first three months. My range and functionality started improving with each week. After three months, I had about 80% functionality and through hard work and guidance from Shauna we achieved. After 4 and half months I approached 90% plus functionality and pretty much 100% functionality after 5 months. This was great team work and professionalism. During my skiing accident, I also tore the tp part of my calf muscle. Which seemed to settle quickly but after two months started to swell dramatically. Shauna called in the owner of the practice, Julia Gane and I was advised to have a scan asap. It proved to be a DVT (had my calf area aspirated) which left unattended would had very serious consequences. Shauna was very attentive throughout my recovery of my calf as well. Bottom-line I am now after 6 and half months fully functional, training hard and hiking at least 10km per week. This wonderful healing is due to Shauna and Green Point Physio being extremely professional, caring and guiding me through a very traumatic experience. You would say that is expected of a 25 to 30-year-old but I am 62. Thank You! Rob Katz, Seapoint, Cape Town'
