Food.Sound.Community- We host #sundayreviewonryk , a public event with food and sound experiment every sunday.
We return after a brief hiatus... details and dates soon....
Translating Western texts into African languages by African writers for African readers is an invention of new worlds.
Following the South African tradition pioneered by the likes of Sol Plaatjie and Masizi Kunene, Makhosazana Xaba offers a delicate n powerful conversion of Fanon’s ‘Wretched of the Earth’ into isiZulu.
Thursday 22 August, 6pm, we host a close reading of Xaba's text, Izimpabanga Zomhlaba, directed by Nombuso Mathibela LIVE in studio.
Join us at the Chimurenga Factory (157 Victoria Rd, Woodstock) or tune in via www.panafricanspacestation.co.za
We had a small chat with SWAG a couple of months ago about different moments in BB’s little history, what we’ve been consuming since the Shebeen’s hiatus and just how much we miss you all…

Bassist, Composer and Arranger, Herbie Tsoaeli ‘s sound is a combination of different elements of South African music, and jazz.

Having played with South African Jazz greats such as Abdullah Ibrahim, Zim Ngqawana, Bheki Mseleku, Louis Moholo and Wynston Mankunku Ngozi, it came as no surprise that Herbie’s debut album, African Time which was a culmination of over two decades of playing in the SA jazz scene, scooped the prestigious jazz SAMA in 2013.
Other projects that Herbie has been involved in include VOICE, Mbizo Quintet, New Notes, Zim Ngqawana’s Zimilogy Quartet, “The Sound Of You” project with Estelle K***t, Chicco Freeman, Jan Pulsford and Kevin Gibson. Herbie also continues to play across South African with his African Time Quartet and other smaller ensembles.
Steven Sokuyeka is a Trombonist born in Nyanga , Cape Town. He was taught music by his late father Roy Sokuyeka and started playing the trumpet at age 14. He later picked up the trombone and decided to stick with it. He has played alongside his father Roy Sokuyeka in the Sokuyeka quintet, Roger Khoza and Pheka, Little Giants, Spencer Mbadu, Tete Mbambisa, Buddy Wells, Nicholas Stephen's, Ezra Ngcukana, Alexander Sinton High School and recently Herbie Tsoaeli .
