View the battlefield terrain around Mors Kop and the Rhenosterfontein Ridge.
See General Botha’s trenches at the base of the Ridge.
Explore the 1897 alluvial diamond workings.
Hike up the Kloof where Winston Churchill discovered the key to the Boer defences.
View where the last British Cavalry charge in history took place.
12h00 lunch at the Restaurant or own picnic lunch in the gardens.
At the Military Cemetery hear the story of the 11th Earl of Airlie at his graveside.
Hike up the ridge to the Boer Memorial, forts, and gun embrasures.

“We will Rock You”
Nooitgedacht Geology and Rock Engraving Day Tour, Sunday 30th May.
1. Meet at Askari Lodge Reception: 08h00 at the Fireside for 08h30 departure. Briefing on the geology of the Magaliesberg and how the range was formed. We explore the two distinct geological landscapes in the Plumari Private Game Reserve and how the ancient engravers developed two quite different adaptive engraving styles.
2. Brief stop at the 1838 Pioneer Farmhouse. How the San and earlier Magaliesberg people were displaced by farmers migrating from both the north and south.
3. Short walk to “Trig Beacon Fort” on the summit. See how the ripple rock of the ancient sea bed was built into this unique Anglo-Boer War fort.
4. Walk towards the Stone Tool Workshop. If the light conditions are favourable, we will observe the emergence of the “Magic Crystal Apparition” at the giant quartz boulder where the cores for the ancient tools were struck off.
5. Stone tool Workshop. Here the techniques of stone tool manufacture will be explained, using examples of the tools on the site. The evolution of stone tool technology will be discussed: from the huge crude hand axes of the early stone age to the small and multi-purpose “Leatherman” of the late stone age.
6. The “Ringing Rock” that does not ring. A demonstration of its secret and why this is a unique discovery in Africa.
7. Explore the pre-San rock engravings at the workshop site. Numerous snake engravings were made to conjure up early spring rains and to show how ancient Shamans entered and re-emerged from the spirit underworld through a crack below a boulder.
8. On the way back to the vehicle, stop at the “Gallery”. Here we see a boulder carved into the shape of a rain-making bull with its smoothed and polished back mirroring the emphasis placed on animal’s backs by later San paintings. There are numerous hewn and polished surfaces in this gallery and an interesting placement of two polished fossil ripple rocks behind the bull statue. We also see the remains of an ancient structure and a possible ancient carved map.
