We had the privilege of hosting the local team from LITG on a site visit to the Maboneng Precinct as they are looking to extend and expand their services/itineraries to include Johannesburg!

As part of the site visit, we highlighted why Maboneng, Street Art/Graffiti and Art are such important elements of the area’s culture and why their future groups should visit this lively and ever vibrant precinct!

We ended off our day with beers and food from Victoria Yards…again highlighting the abundance of Art and Culture found across our amazing City!

What was funny, was that they had actually previously sent us two big groups of 20+ pax before - from USA - and this was each of their first time visiting Maboneng while also experiencing for themselves why both their groups loved their experience with us haha 😁!

After first visiting Mozambique 🇲🇿, the crew came to Joburg and had a fun morning exploring Joburg while also learning about its complicated but dynamic history, development and culture!

We really enjoyed the questions every one had and we all agreed that the cultural diversity of Joburg is one of the most dynamic we’ve all seen…the contrast between City Blocks is very crude and happens very abruptly which can throw a lot of people off haha!

We know that Joburg can be very rough around the edges, but our whole philosophy is to focus on the City’s amazing and vibrant (street) culture to create positive experiences for travelers in Joburg…this City is a vibe if you know where to look!

Celebrating the “Colours of Johannesburg” with Shirley - from USA 🇨🇳/🇺🇸 - on our Braamfontein Graffiti & Culture Tour!

Shirley was so happy to be the only one on her booked date because she left her family (husband and two young children) at home to travel, so wanted to take as many pictures as possible to send to them - and man, did we put in a heavy shift on the phone/camera 😂!

Every shot was setup by Shirley and we simply had to hold the phone in place, let her quickly run into frame, pose and then snap the picture haha…a proper tutorial on how to be an Instagram boyfriend 😂!

We took so many pictures but these were her favourites so we’re posting these!

We had a great time seeing and learning about the Graffiti and Street Art found across the City with our guests - they’re all big fans of Street Culture so enjoyed getting an opportunity to walk the streets and getting a sense of what Joburg is like on a day-to-day basis!

Our guests really enjoyed themselves at Grayscale where they got to see the “Chrome Sweet Chrome” exhibition and browse through some of the items and merchandise available in store!

Joburg can be chaotic to the untrained eye - there’s a bit of everything happening all the time where contradictory realities co-exist side-by-side but no-one bats an eyelid…it simply is what it is as it’s the reality of life in the City!

Lucky for us (and you 😉), we find pride and excitement in making sense of this chaos and stripping the whole to make sense of its parts…it’s a thoroughly enjoyable and therapeutic process and we love sharing it with you!

What an amazing and inspiring time with these Gr10 - 12 Visual Arts Students from Xanadu Private School on our Maboneng Street Art & Culture Tour!

The highlight was definitely the visit to the David Krut Project Workshop where the students learnt first-hand about the ins-and-outs of how print making works…even assisting one of the expert printers on printing a part of an ongoing project!

As Visual Arts students, this tour was about highlighting the potential career opportunities in art that go beyond just the painting and drawing done at school…

Thank you Elna for organizing everything and for working with us to create this amazing experience for all these bright young minds…

Thank you James AKA “Sweet Potato” for teaching the students about the importance and alternative of being self-taught and not needing formal education to become an artist…

This wonderful couple were really excited to walk as much of the City as possible - when they booked, it came with a very clear directive i.e. “we are very fit and avid walkers so distance is not an issue!”!

Starting in Maboneng, we went from East-to-West which meant we covered a fair amount of Johannesburg’s story: Redeveloment in Maboneng/Jewel City, Inequality and Change in City and Suburban, Start and Origins of Joburg in Marshalltown, Rumblings of the Liberation Movement in Ferreirasdorp, Arts and Culture in Newtown and finally, the Story of Fietas in Fordsburg…a very comprehensive tour but our guests were engaged the entire way!

We really enjoyed this tour, it was a lot of fun being challenged by our guests and thankfully, all the reading and research we do about Joburg on a regular basis came into handy this time around haha!

Victor and Adele from Belgium 🇧🇪 enjoying the diverse Graffiti, Street Art and Culture in Braamfontein - and their visit to where they enjoyed the new “Chrome Sweet Chrome” exhibition!

Victor is based in Cape Town while Adele was making a short visit to SA and lucky for us, they added us to their itinerary for Joburg!

We had a great time talking about the socio-economics of South Africa while also exchanging stories about how Graffiti/Street Art has been used as a form of protest/public disorder/fun in both our countries i.e. google “Giant Pen*ses and Vaginas Street Art in Brussels” 😂!

Skating & Exploring with the adventurous, well-travelled and cool Miller family from Winston-Salem, NC, USA 🇺🇸!

Mom booked this tour for the whole family and while she may not be in the pictures, she most certainly killed it on the board with her steeze and finesse haha!

The Miller family has been travelling all through Southern Africa and using OR Tambo airport as their main departure/connecting point - to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana etc. - and yet, had not explored Joburg in the 4 times they spent some time here…

…and that’s exactly why Mom booked this tour - to give the family a chance to see and experience the City for themselves and wow, did they have fun 😂!

On top of improving their skating, they really enjoyed learning about the rich history of the City and how it’s changed over time, it’s quite remarkable!

Students from Appalachian University, North Carolina, USA 🇺🇸, taking in some amazing gems of wisdom, history and original anti-apartheid posters with James at the Rand Club this morning!

The students are traveling through South Africa as part of their global studies/exchange program with a focus on: “Segregation to Apartheid - A Case Study of Race and Justice in South Africa”!

We did a fun but informative Marshalltown tour highlighting its influence over Joburg and South Africa from its inception in 1886 i.e. Old JSE Building, Reserve Bank in Newtown, Anglo-American Mining District, Mandela and Tambo Attorneys, Gandhi Square and a tour of the Rand Club…all these places have had considerable impact on our country’s journey since diamonds and gold were discovered on our shores in the late 1800s!

On top of the Street Culture, our City also has a very rich history and is closely connected to the growth of South Africa at a global level i.e. until gold was discovered in 1886, South Africa hardly featured in the global conversation/economy.

Our City is dope with so much to offer - the more you learn about it, the more you realise just how rich Johannesburg is!
