INTERNATIONAL PRESERVE THE OZONE DAY

The ozone layer acts as an invisible shield around Earth and protects us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun 🌞. It protects all life on earth 🌳👫🐕 from UV radiation and we need to make an effort to preserve the ozone layer, and in turn protect ourselves.

This day highlights the collective efforts and commitment of nations around the world over the past 35 years to protect the ozone layer.

Here are some ways we can all make an effort to protect the ozone layer:
• Organise lift clubs or use public transport – or ride a bike 🚲 or walk – to reduce the number of vehicles 🚗 on the road.
• Use eco-friendly household cleaning products 🧼, and in fact when buying any product, look for a “toxin-free” or “ozone friendly” label.
• Shop locally for food that hasn’t travelled long distances to your kitchen 🫛.
• Use air-conditioners responsibly 🪭.
• Avoid using pesticides 😷.

Remember – by making even _one_ small change in your daily life, you can impact the ozone layer for the better! 💪

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF DEMOCRACY
On the 15th of September each year the world celebrates democracy in all its forms. All governments across the globe are encouraged to promote and uphold the principles of a healthy democracy.

Some fun facts about democracy:
- Bhutan is the world’s youngest democracy, holding its first democratic elections in 2007.
- There are two types of democracy: a direct democracy (where every citizen is directly involved in making laws and decisions); and a representative democracy (where citizens elect representatives to make decisions and laws on their behalf).
- South Africa is a representative democracy.

Why don’t you be an active citizen and see what your democracy is doing for you today, by logging onto South Africa’s parliamentary channel? You might witness history and see something signed into law! https://www.parliament.gov.za/parliament-tv

"Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. Honour everyone. Love brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the emperor." - 1 Peter 2:13-17

🌍 WORLD FIRST AID DAY ⛑️

Today is dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness about first aid and how YOU can help someone — or even save a life!

First aid should be accessible to everyone and should be an essential part of societal development. Take the time to familiarise yourself with basic first aid treatment, and you might be able to help someone one day.

Join the world in celebrating this day to raise awareness about how first aid can save lives.

“He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.” - Luke 10:34
The Samaritan had the hands to care and the heart to act. He tended to the victim’s wounds using the available treatment, transported him, and oversaw and financed his recovery.

Let us prepare ourselves to help others in need, just like the Samaritan did for the man who was attacked and left for dead.

In an age where we communicate almost exclusively in some kind of digital form, the written letter has become somewhat old-fashioned. A written letter is almost unheard of these days. Sending or receiving such a beautiful piece of communication can really pack a punch.

celebrates the written word – the handwritten word 😉. On this day, we encourage you to pick up a pen or a pencil ✍🏻 and write a letter to someone special to you✉💌

Here are some letter ideas to celebrate this day:
👵🏻👴🏻A letter to a grandparent or a relative you haven't spoken to in a while.
🙏🏻A thank you letter to someone who made a difference in your life.
🙋‍♀️A letter of encouragement to a friend who is going through a difficult time.
🥳 A letter to a friend on their birthday.

WORLD ROCK PAPER SCISSORS DAY

This day celebrates the iconic hand game - considered one of the oldest hand games in the world.

Here are the exact statistics for how often each “move” is played:
🪨Rock – 35.4 per cent
📰Paper – 35.0 per cent
✂Scissors – 29.6 per cent

Why not take a moment and challenge someone to a game of Rock Paper Scissors. You can also use the game to settle a difference of opinion with someone: fighting over who sits in the front seat of the car? Rock Paper Scissors can settle it for you!

Just remember, Rock smashes Scissors, Scissors cut Paper, and Paper covers Rock 😎 💪

WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY

Humanitarians dedicate their lives to helping the less fortunate in our society. Today, we recognise their efforts and the work they do for all needy causes.

We also pay tribute to the ones who have been injured or lost their lives while providing life-saving support and protection to people most in need. Today we highlight the importance, effectiveness and positive impact of humanitarian work.

"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.” - Luke 12:33

Let us join the efforts of these amazing people and the work they do. Let us help those in need, remembering that we are blessed when we give, rather than receive. Has God placed a cause on your heart? Is there someone in your community or greater society whom you know you can bless today?

International Left-hander's Day

Are you unique?
Are you different?
Are you left-handed?

Today we celebrate you. For being unique and for being different.

Here are some cool facts about “lefties”:
• Roughly 10% of the world’s population is left-handed.
• If you are left-handed, there’s likely someone in your family who is too - left-handedness is genetically passed on from parents to children by up to 40 different genes.
• Some studies suggest left-handers are better at multi-tasking!
• Left-handers are less likely to develop arthritis and ulcers.
• A large number of leaders are left-handed, including Winston Churchill, Prince William, Barack Obama and seven other American presidents.
• Left-handers have a better sense of direction that “righties”.

All you right-handers - try and do everything with your left hand today!
All the left-handers - post some photos of your daily tasks with your left-handed awesomeness.

When the Bible refers to left-handed people, it speaks of left-handedness as an advantage, not a weakness.

YOU HAVE AN ADVANTAGE. YOU ARE DIFFERENT.
Today we celebrate YOU!

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

This day places focus on tweens and teens and their place in society. This day does not only focus on the protection of our youth, but on including them in the development of communities around the world.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." - Jeremiah 29:11

Today we at Hatfield Online School honour our amazing youth and the plans that God has for their futures. We are so excited to see where each of our students is headed in life!

National Women's Day
Today is a day of celebration, education and awareness surrounding women's rights and upliftment.

On this day we commemorate women from different walks of life, ethnicities and backgrounds. We highlight the plights and triumphs of women in South Africa, and we promote gender equality for a sustainable future.

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honour her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." - Proverbs 31:30-31

Today we honour the women of God in South Africa, who have contributed to the development and upliftment of our nation.

Let’s celebrate the important role our parents play in our lives, no matter who or where they are. In May we celebrated Moms, and in June we celebrated Dads – now in July, let’s bring them together and show our appreciation to our parents. They may be your biological parents, your adoptive parents, your step-parents, your spiritual parents – let’s honour them all for their efforts, and for everything they do to love and protect us.

From our very first breath, we learn from them, we look at them for guidance and mirror their behaviour to learn to be part of a community. They play a vital role in the lives of their children. They teach us, they protect us and lead us to be independent adults.

"Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” – Exodus 20:12

We all have dreams, but some of us tend to hold back on them, leaving decisions for later or leaving plans incomplete. All of us have at least one thing we have dreamt about achieving, overcoming or experiencing.

Today you are encouraged to have an all or nothing attitude towards your dreams. Go ahead - throw caution to the wind! Seize the day!
Do not hesitate, do not be fearful.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV

FOLLOW YOU DREAMS AND GO FOR IT! Some of the biggest changes in our lives start with taking small steps. You have to start somewhere!

Make an announcement.
Apply for that position you have always dreamed of.
Mend a fence.

Today, we celebrate all women of a certain age, grandmothers or not!

Not every woman will become a grandmother, and those who do might not fit the traditional mould. This day is about embracing and flaunting your unique granny attitude with purpose and style.

Share your Gorgeous Grandma in the comments – whether she's the classic cookie-baking, home-making, hug-giving, child-spoiling grandma, or the one who plays the latest games, wears the trendiest styles, and finds the best tech deals. They all hold a special place in our hearts.
