We are thrilled to announce that Dr Susan Stone, Chair of Economics at the University of South Australia Business and former head of the Emerging Policy Issues Division at the OECD, will join us as our distinguished economist and interview the Hon. Stephen Mulligan for this year's Annual Economic Outlook Luncheon on July 5th.
Dr. Stone brings extensive experience in trade and environmental issues, the digital economy, and subsidies. Notably, she led the development of the OECD METRO model, a vital tool in computable general equilibrium trade modelling. Previously, she was Director of the Trade, Investment, and Innovation Division at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), collaborating with governments to advance trade facilitation, foreign direct investment, SME development, and innovation initiatives.

· Ali Abdullah-Highfold, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia. Ali works with Aboriginal communities in reclaiming their identity, history, and culture through professional family history research and information repatriation. He believes that understanding one's roots fosters healing, strength, and pride, enabling the transmission of knowledge to future generations.
· Aboriginal Education Team, Para Hills High School, Department for Education, South Australia. Para Hills Aboriginal Education partnered with STARS foundation in South Australia, integrating community involvement into classrooms. They connect with Aboriginal elders, families, organizations, and industries to create genuine learning opportunities. This led to a 100% SACE completion rate and a 90% attendance rate among Aboriginal students.

Such recognition underscores the vital role played by these individuals and teams in driving growth, innovation, and prosperity within South Australia's economy.
Among the winners were:
- Bettina Venner, leading the SA Industry Capability Network (ICN) office in the Department for Industry, Innovation, and Science. ICN connects local companies with opportunities in energy, defence, mining, manufacturing, infrastructure, construction, and the emerging hydrogen sector.
- The Industry Engagement Team from the Department for Education collaborates with key industries to support students in exploring career pathways, apprenticeships, and traineeships. Their efforts provide early exposure to sectors, help make informed career decisions, and assist employers in attracting and retaining talent in South Australia.
The South Australian Defence Industry Workforce and Skills Taskforce, led by the Department for Industry, Innovation, and Science. This taskforce conducted a 10-month engagement program involving the defence sector, government, supply chains, and unions. Their resulting report and action plan aim to address workforce demands and ensure the successful delivery of the nation's most complex defence projects.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations and thanks to the outstanding individuals and teams honoured at the Premiers Excellence Awards for their remarkable achievements in 'Driving Innovation'. Among these distinguished recipients are:
Associate Professor Alexandre Santos from SA Health is celebrated for pioneering efforts in advancing radiotherapy within South Australia. Since 2010, he has spearheaded the development of cutting-edge technologies, including establishing Australia's inaugural proton therapy unit at the Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research.
Professor Brown and the RAH Immuno-Therapies team at CALHN have been acknowledged for their groundbreaking work in cancer therapy innovation. Leveraging immune system science, their treatments strategically target cancer cells utilizing antibodies and cells, resulting in promising outcomes observed during early-phase hospital trials to combat challenging solid cancers. We commend Professor Brown and his team for their remarkable accomplishments.

On March 8, 2024, the Premiers Excellence Awards 2023, hosted by IPAA SA and the Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment (OCPSE), celebrated 18 individuals and 15 South Australian public sector teams for their outstanding contributions.
Among them:
Philip Hespe of SA Housing Authority was honoured for his exceptional service as a Senior Project Coordinator, managing housing projects across 14 remote Aboriginal communities.
Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia and the Department for Industry, Innovation and Science received accolades for their Flood Recovery program, led by Alex Zimmermann and Deb Richardson. It has brought hope and resilience to River Murray communities.
Congratulations to all awardees for their remarkable dedication and impact on South Australia.
