The Metro SC championships are on this weekend at MSAC! One of the first official point meets for the new swimming season and Surrey Park swimmers are doing great! 🔥🔥🔥

Well done to all our swimmers, coaches, parents and volunteers who are helping to make this weekend a success.

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics has commenced! What a journey these athletes have gone through to even make the Olympics. Australia has 41 swimmers racing at the start of the games.

We have posters on each notice board at all of our centres to put your favourite Olympic moment on. Take a selfie of you and your moment then tag us so we can share on our stories!

Anyone can drown, no one should. It is World Drowning Prevention Day today. Drowning has caused more than 2.5 million preventable deaths in the past decade. This equates to 650 deaths every day, 26 every hour – a silent epidemic of preventable deaths. More than 90% of drowning deaths occur in rivers, lakes, wells, domestic water storage vessels and swimming pools in low- and middle-income countries. Drowning is among the 10 leading causes of death for children and young people aged 1–24 years in every region of the world.

What can you do to prevent drowning?
1. Participate in our water safety weeks and practise wearing clothes
2. Enrol in year round swimming and water safety lessons
3. Educate yourself and your family on water safety when on holidays at the beach, water park, river, lake, swimming pool, friends house
4. ALWAYS supervise kids in and around water, including bath time.
5. Providing safe places away from water for pre-school children
6. Installing barriers controlling access to water
7. Know safe rescues and resuscitation
8. Setting and enforcing safe boating regulations and wear personal flotation devices
9. Know what to do in a flood. Never enter flood waters
10. Learn CPR and know how to call triple 000 (zero, zero, zero - for kids)

Go Lucy!!! Congratulations on moving up to level 6! It has been great to see so many level ups in just one week of term! With many families taking advantage of our winter promotion from our learn to swim and dive programs it will be wonderful to see the progress our students make this term. Well done to all our swimmers and divers on your efforts so far! 👏

It was great to see so many of our Level 8 Development Squad alumni swimmers in our Junior Beginner session tonight! All Junior training sessions had a starts and dives focus today.

Michael was seriously impressed by the swimmer’s efforts and the sheer fun at the Surrey Park Short Course meet yesterday! A huge thank you to all the volunteers, officials, coaches, parents and guardians, you truely made the meet a success. To all swimmers, well done on your effort and the incredible energy you brought to the meet.

Surrey Park has 11 swimmers representing Victoria at the up and coming School Sport Australia Championships in the Gold Coast. You’re champions already! Good luck to all our swimmers and congratulations for your achievements so far!! 🙌🏼

Congratulations Sascha!!! At the SV Awards Function Sascha was presented with the HA Bennett Trophy for Backstroke. This trophy is awarded to the most outstanding Victorian Male or Female Backstroke competitor for the swimming season (based on World Aquatic points). You bring such a positive energy to the pool and have worked so hard this season this award is very well deserved. 👏

Over the weekend our Surrey Park swimmers kicked off the Short Course (SC) season at the Official’s Club SC Challenge at MSAC.

In the morning session, 28 out of 29 11yrs and under swimmers managed to PB, starting the day strong. The afternoon session saw 57 12yrs and over swimmers build their momentum as they began their SC season.

Thank you to all the officials and volunteers who helped on the day, and congratulations to the amazing swimmers!

Water safety week is in full swing. Several of our learn to swim families have had fun being pulled through currents or using kickboards to make some rapids!

Please bring an old t-shirt to wear over your bathers for your lesson this week until Sunday the 26th of May. Our focus is on Rivers and Waterways. Our teachers will be explaining all the vital skills to keep yourself or your child safe in these fun and beautiful environments.

It is National Volunteer Week and we are celebrating our wonderful volunteers that have helped support Surrey Park Swimming and kept our Club operating since 1904.

Volunteers are vital to our club’s success. We have volunteers helping our club in different capacities across a wide ranges of activities, events, duties, and meets. Its our volunteers and committee that ultimately lead to the success of our club and the sport of swimming. Volunteering allows our members to come together, support and feel connected while helping their community club.

Water safety week starts this coming Monday the 20th of May and runs through until Sunday the 26th of May for all learn to swim families. Please bring an old t-shirt to wear over your bathers for these lessons.

This term our focus is on rivers and inland waterways. Our teachers will be explaining currents, rapids, how to rescue and stay safe, survival strokes to stay afloat and conserve energy. All vital skills to keep yourself or your child safe in these fun and beautiful waterways.
