This young lady was about to have four teeth removed at another orthodontic practice. The mother was referred to me for a second opinion, against these extractions. We were able to use a combination of Maxillary Expansion and the Damon System to achieve a pleasing result, which not only avoided extraction of teeth, but also helped this young lady's nasal breathing.

This young lady had a Class 3 jaw, i.e. commonly called an underbite. She was given numerous options by various practices, which included jaw surgery, but with the help of our new adult expansion appliances, we were able to correct her case on a non-surgical basis.

This young lady wanted to obtain a second opinion against the extraction of four teeth, before her braces were placed. Full Face Orthodontics was able to treat her using light arch expansion devices and the Damon system, to maintain a fuller smile and a pleasing facial profile.

Canines (the Dracula teeth) tend to erupt in the wrong position when there is not enough space in the upper arch. At Full Face Orthodontics, we believe in widening the palate, to accommodate the teeth as opposed to extractions, so that we can maintain a pleasing facial profile, and have sufficient room for the tongue to sit on the palate. This case is a classic example of the benefits of early orthodontic intervention.

You are never too old to have your teeth straightened. Zoe is a classic example of this. Her parents were not able to help her as a child, so therefore, she waited until she was an adult to see an orthodontist. The opinions she was given were all based on removing healthy teeth, but here in Full Face Orthodontics, using the Damon System, we were able to treat Zoe without the extraction of any teeth so as to give her a "broad" pleasing smile.

Scarlett shows a classic example of why early treatment pays off. This young lady had no room for her impacted canines and by developing the arch early, she has ended up with enough space for the teeth, and avoided unnecessary extractions as part of her orthodontic care.

Early interceptive treatment is important when a child has a jaw problem, i.e., in this young man's case, a deep overbite. The longer you wait, the more difficult it may become to correct. Future treatment may then involve removal of teeth and sometimes jaw surgery. Full Face Orthodontics recommends an initial consultation with your orthodontist by age seven, based on the American Association of Orthodontists guidelines.
"If you or a member of your family is seeking orthodontics, and someone else has r
recommended extractions, please always consider a second opinion.

When Paul presented for the initial consultation, he had already seen another doctor who was suggesting extraction of teeth to make room for his dental crowding. Dr Mahony was able to treat Paul using the new Damon Braces, which create space as they align, due to the unique property of the new arch wires.

Celina was referred to our practice by her general dentist to seek a second opinion against the extraction of four premolar teeth. By using arch development appliances and the Damon System, we have been able to treat the case to a high standard, without needing to remove healthy teeth.

Underbites, also known as Class III jaws, are best treated during the growth period, to minimize the need for jaw surgery, at a later stage. April is a classic example of why we expand the palate to help create space for alignment of the teeth and also to improve the underbite.

This case again demonstrates the benefits of early interceptive orthodontic treatment. By widening the palate, when the child is young, you can create the space for the new teeth to erupt so that you do not need to extract good healthy adult teeth, just to resolve the crowding. "If you or a member of your family is seeking orthodontics, and someone else has recommended extractions, please always consider a second opinion.

K presented to my practice with a cross bite i.e. upper jaw narrower than the lower jaw, and also lack of room for the eruption of the permanent canines. Using modern principles of arch development, we were able to correct the cross bite and align the teeth without the need for extracting any premolars. K now has a beautiful broad smile with good lip support.

Thumb sucking can cause changes in the bite. To break the habit and widen the palate and make more room for the tongue, we use fixed maxillary expansion appliances, which automatically break the thumb habit and, at the same time, change the palate dimension to the size that should have been before the thumb-sucking habit began.

Early correction of a functional cross bite means that the child develops better facial symmetry. This treatment should be carried out as early as possible to minimize any negative impact on future facial growth.

The best age to correct anterior cross bites is as early as they're diagnosed, particularly if there is an associated postural shift to the jaw.

Olivia is a classic example of this, and was treated using a technique called Planas, with upper arch expansion.

All treatment carries risks. Individual consultation is required with one of our practitioners to ensure that the treatment is right for you. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
