Congratulations to Emma on completing her Invisalign treatment! Thanks for letting us share 😊
Teeth move throughout life, and without retainers, they will continue to move again. Long-term retainer wear is important for maintaining and protecting your smile into the future :)
METAL BRACES
Conventional metal braces are still the most common treatment option recommended by orthodontists for cases which may not be treated as predictably with clear aligners.
Conventional metal braces consist of metal square-shaped brackets which are bonded onto teeth. A metal wire is threaded through the slots of the brackets and secured to the brackets by small rubber ties. These small rubber ties come in different colours and can be changed at every appointment. This makes metal braces a popular option among teens.
At St Kilda Orthodontics we offer traditional metal braces, sometimes alone, or in combination with ceramic braces. To find out if you are a candidate for metal braces, book a complimentary appointment with our orthodontist today!
Did you know that it is Dental Health Week?
Keeping your teeth clean is important for preventing tooth decay and gum disease, which is especially important during orthodontic treatment!

SMILE TRANSFORMATION 😁
Case type: Underbite
Treated by: Dr. Joshua Ch’ng
Treatment: Braces and extractions
An underbite is unfavourable bite situation where the lower front teeth protrude out in front of the upper front teeth. This can negatively affect one’s appearance, chewing function, speech, and result in unfavourable wear of the upper front teeth. This patient’s underbite was treated with extractions and braces.
CLEAR BRACES- Transparent or tooth-coloured braces :)
Clear braces are great for adults or teens looking for a discreet way to improve their smile. They are made of a tooth-coloured or translucent ceramic material and are therefore less visible than conventional metal braces. Ceramic braces can be used to treat certain severe cases which clear aligners may not be able to. In addition, they may be more suitable for patients who do not think they can wear clear aligners all-day every day.
Ceramic braces do, however, have a few disadvantages. Enamel wear can occur if ceramic braces make contact with opposing tooth surfaces. This tends to occur in patients with a deep bite relationship. Ceramic braces are more likely to fracture compared to metal braces.
At St Kilda orthodontics, we offer Radiance ceramic braces which are extremely translucent. Depending on the individual case, we may place ceramic braces on upper and lower teeth, or place upper ceramic braces and lower metal braces. To find out if you are a good candidate for ceramic braces, book a complimentary consultation with our orthodontist today!

SMILE TRANSFORMATION😁
Case type: Deep Bite
Treated by: Dr. Joshua Ch’ng
Treatment: Braces
A deep bite is an improper bite relationship where there is excessive overlap between upper and lower front incisors. In some cases, this can lead to unfavourable tooth wear. In more severe cases, the lower front teeth can make contact with the palatal gum tissues, causing recession. This patient’s deep bite was corrected with braces.
