Jan's Banded Snakes spend a lot of their time underground in burrows. They have a large range that extends from the arid regions of WA to SA to NT.

They're venomous, but rarely dangerous.

Considering there are already a number of native species allowed to be kept in some states i see no reason that we can't extend that to other species

Paleontologist Mike Archer is pushing for law changes to allow residents to keep native Australian fauna as pets, saying "wildlife is increasingly no longer safe in the wild."

The proposed change would aim to conserve endangered populations and protect non-endangered species.

The concept has already been adopted in Victoria and South Australia.

Ribbetting news - a new species of mountain frog has been identified in South East Queensland 🐸 Please say hello to the 'Philoria knowlesi' 👋

Philoria knowlesi vary in colour and pattern and are found in upland rainforests and wet eucalypt forests around the Mount Barney area.

Originally discovered in 2006, the species couldn’t be confirmed until genetic evidence was gathered. Over the past 16 years though, samples have been gathered to determine that this population is actually genetically distinct, and warrant being regarded as a new species.

The frog is currently classified as endangered, but the Department of Environment and Science is working to protect its habitat as part of ongoing national park management.
