We recently made a submission to He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission on Aotearoa New Zealand's fourth emissions budget.

EIANZ supports the Commission's proposed quantitative reduction in the net emissions budget for the period of 2036 to 2040. In our submission, we suggest strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and facilitate an equitable transition for individuals, households, and businesses.

Our thanks to our Climate Change Special Interest Section for their work putting together the submission.

On today, we are pleased to share the communiquΓ© developed from our inaugural Nature Positive Cities Symposium earlier this year.

The symposium heard that centring nature in our cities has significant health, social and economic benefits. Creating nature positive cities is also essential to addressing the challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

EIANZ therefore calls on policy makers and regulators to make these issues central to policy and decision-making on urban planning and recognise that developing nature positive cities requires striving for Biodiversity Net Gain.

This year's World Environment Day themes include land restoration and drought resilience. Bringing nature back to our cities is part of the solution.

Our thanks to the NPCS Technical Committee for preparing this important document.

We recently made a submission to the Australian Climate Change Authority on their Issues Paper 'Targets, Pathways and Progress'.

Our submission recommends that when advising the Government, the Authority should account for the unique strengths Australia has in relation to the transition (wind, sunshine and critical minerals) as well as the loss and damage our Pacific neighbours face as a result of climate change.

EIANZ also recommends that Australia phase out the use of fossil fuels well before 2050, commencing with an immediate prohibition on development of new fossil fuel reserves or fossil fuel-based electricity generation.

Our thanks to EIANZ's Climate Change Special Interest Section for preparing this submission.

The dates for NRW, 27 May to 3 June, commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey: the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
